This anthology has six short stories. Because of the reputation of this book company, I'm sure these are first-time publications of each story. Although contemporary stories are not favorites, I like this publisher and know (and like) the work of most of these authors. However, I must admit these stories don't appeal to me much. This has to be the worst collection of stories I've read in a long time.
MOONLIGHT KISS (Josi S. Kilpack) -- G+
Sarah is looking forward to a company retreat because she has been instant messaging with Clint, a co-worker in Seattle. Sarah and her friend and Clint and Mark (his friend) decide to stay over two extra days to get to know each other. Sarah has not told Clint that she has a Down Syndrome daughter at home. Mark remembers Sarah, and he has a Cerebral Palsy-affected brother.
CHASING TESS (Annette Lyon) -- 2 Stars
This is the first story by Annette Lyon I didn't like. Tess has been waiting three years for James to finish law school so they can get married. On the night of his graduation party, James announces he is going to New York City for an internship. Tess realizes she's been waiting for a man who doesn't value her. That wasn't my problem with this story; James had an epiphany and changed while driving to find Tess. What?
DANCING AT THE FLEA MARKET (Heather Justesen) -- G
Mara and her friend, Anna, are taking a vacation in Texas. At the restaurant that night, Mara sings karaoke. She blows the audience away. Carter hears her, but he has his own problems. He's a widower of two years, trying to get into the dating game again. Meh.
THE BEST-LAID PLANS (Sarah M. Eden) -- 2 Stars
Oh, Sarah Eden, what has happened to you? Storyline: Madison is chasing after her mother, rescuing her from failed relationships. What? What a stupid story premise. Mother and daughter need therapy, not boyfriends.
PICTURE PERFECT (Heather B. Moore) -- 2 Stars
Heather Moore is one of my favorites, so why did she write this story? Gemma gets dumped by her boyfriend (Randy) of two years, and when (12-year ago classmate) Drew indicates he's interested in her, she rebuffs the old boyfriend when he wants her back. Have you ever heard of "rebound romances?"
THE SCIENCE OF SENTIMENT (Aubrey Mace) -- 1 Star
Rosie is on a spring holiday at her grandfather's mountain cabin. However, I couldn't make it through the fourth chapter; this story was so yucky. Kevin and Rosie are two immature children squabbling. Who wants to read this? Not me.
