No angst. No self-hatred. No whiny, pitiful excuses. No diving into the cesspool of character despair and agony.
Lindskold tells her story forthrightly and keeps her characters moving forward. They are not shallow because they aren't in constant emotional agony, like some other series by other authors. This is a story about people who DO things and who are looking to the future, not some imagined tortured past.
Very Good! Looking forward to the rest of the series...

I loved reading about how a girl raised by wolves could be introduced back into human society and how unsettling this could be to get a previously unknown purported noblewoman threatening their status in the land. I enjoyed the excitement and danger.

The characters are interesting and generally well-drawn, the events keep moving along fairly well, and you want to keep reading until the end. Then you want to start the next book (this is #1 of a long series).

moves slowly thru the political stuff. child raised by wolves (feral child) is well thought out.

Sprightly fantasy about a young woman reared by wolves who may be the only surviving member of the ruling family. Unfortunately, the story quickly bogs down with internecine squabbles, double-dealing, attempted assassinations, medieval-fantasy warfare, and a tinge of black magic.

I didn't finish this one. Between the convoluted politics and the way said politics dragged down the rest of the plot and characters with it, I decided to stop and go read something else. The writing wasn't that bad, but I just don't want to spend my time on a book that isn't working for me. I don't owe it that much.
The concept of this book series was fantastic. I really enjoyed her take on fantasy and where the story went in the series. Very creative and a good read!

This is the first book of a wonderful series by Jane Lindskold. Her characters are vivid and real, and her plotting is complex and thoughtful. Highly recommended.
Very enjoyable fantasy series.

Slow beginning but holy wow it sped up and grabbed me by the britches within the third chapters and held me spellbound with the colorful characters and journey for the rest of the book. I've since read the entire series and loved it.

Firekeeper is the only survivor of a settlement led by one of the king's sons. Raised by wolves, she no longer remembers the human language or way of life. However, at the age of fifteen, she is sent back to the world of men. This is the fascinating story of a race for the throne of a dying king, the freeing of a sorceress's daughter, and a war that ends in betrayal and alliance.
I enjoyed this book and am working my way through the whole series.
