I love this series, and book three is my favorite! I am so in love with the character of Mr. Darcy after reading these books. The insight into his character is wonderful, and it really compliments Austen's original work without taking anything away. So often in "fan fiction" the author strays by not staying true to the characters the original author created. I am glad to say this is NOT the case with Aidan's works. She seemlessly creates a new story for Darcy while remaining true to the character. I highly encourage you to read these books! But you will have to wait for another copy, because I am keeping mine! :) Happy Reading!

This the final book in Aidan's trilogy retelling Pride and Prejudice from Mr. Darcy's point of view. I found it more satisfactory than the previous two books, as Aidan is obliged to stick to Austen's story more.
There is a bit of the Gothic romance from book two running over into this one and it is mixed with political intrigue as well. Still most of the book is firmly centered on the courtship of Darcy and Elizabeth and how they come to enjoy an extraordinary understanding.
I also enjoyed having a bit more detail of the courtship and the actual marriage.
It is not Austen, but it is a pretty good book.

This is the conclusion of the Fitzwilliam Darcy, Gentleman, trilogy - Pride and Prejudice told from Darcy's point of view. It is excellent. Aidan keeps well within the spirit of P&P, showing respect for Jane Austen's original characters. Despite having read P&P an uncountable number of times, I was on the edge of my seating wanting to know what would happen next. A really beautiful story.

I'm going to post this review for the whole trilogy for all three, since they are all three one story.
I love them. Yes, the story is VERY long, and there are a few aspects of Pamela Aidan's writing style that I don't care for... but I think she did an EXCELLENT job of making these books mesh with Pride and Prejudice. I've got P&P virtually memorized, and they flow so well, it's amazing.
I love the way Darcy's full character comes out, as well as how much more we see of Elizabeth. It is totally understandable why Darcy falls in love with her! The transitions that Darcy goes through between disinterest, to interest, to infatuation, to a lighter love, to anger, to a deeper and truer love are portrayed very, very well, too. I also love the way she brought out the characters of Georgiana, Col. Fitzwilliam, and Mr. Bingley. I like her new characters, too. They fall totally within the bounds of what a man of Mr. Darcy's station was likely to encounter.
Some people criticize the totally new (and slightly wild) plot line in Duty and Desire. I agree that it's out there, but Ms. Aidan had to create some sort of something... some story of what Darcy went through in trying to put Elizabeth from his thoughts. And in this, she did well. I love the way she portrayed what he went through.
Enough said... if you're a P&P fan, read these!

This is the third book in the Fitzwilliam Darcy, A Gentleman trilogy. Pamela Aidan outdoes herself. This series was just fantastic!
Set in Pride and Prejudice but told from Mr. Darcy's point of view, it gives insight to the man of mystery we all want to know more about.
Aidan keeps all of the original characters and writes them true to form. She also introduces several new characters and they are just as wonderful and fit right into the telling of the story.
Darcy's valet, Fletcher, is a Shakespeare spouting font of information for Darcy and I enjoyed the relationship between the two.
The introduction of Darcy's best friend Dyfed Broughton in book one carries through the series and the interaction between the two men is thoroughly enjoyable. It's nice to see how Darcy's mind works and how he's brought to heel when needed by his bonvivant friend, of whom there is more than meets the eye.
I absolutely loved this series and hated for it to come to an end. It is definitely going to be a keeper series for me!
