Great story about a hike in 1958 the length of California from Mexico to OR. Great glimpse of hiking of a then soon to be hiking author guru.
The best backpacking journal I've read. I love his writing style. If you're from California, it's a fascinating look at what was rural California in the 1960s. Also a great read for folks interested in solo backpacking or just getting into the sport - very inspiring!
