I generally don't read romance, and found this book boring. The writing is lovely but I found the characters dull and forgettable. I slogged through the first 100 pages before tossing it aside.

A romance, yes, but not an outlandish, impalusible fictional one---this is the tale of two people, not in the first blush of Youth, living in distant parts of the world from one another, who still in a strange and wonderful way (fate?), meet, are parted, and then reunited. This is the true story of a certain Italian gentleman and the American woman he waited for, wooed, and won.

Sorry, I'm not re-posting this! After spending two days in Venice on a tour, being very intrigued, but not sure if there was enough to do to justify a longer stay, this book makes me want to move there! Incredibly romantic true story, with recipes and (the reason I'm keeping it) a list of things to do in Venice not found in any guide book. Highly recommended, but you'll have to get it from someone else!

I enjoyed this book, seemed unrealistic at times, but I guess their lives are really romantic and dramatic at times. I liked the author's attention to detail, explaining the food, aromas, atmosphere, people, sights, etc of Venice. I want to go there, that is why I read this book.

I liked. It was kind of slow at first, but built up steam and by the last 3rd, I couldn't put it down. The author has a droll and fun sense of humor. I love that she calls her husband "the stranger" and describes his sad eyes as "dead bunny eyes" if I remember correctly. I can't wait to get the next installment.

I found this book lacking something for me. I like the whole, under the tuscan sun storyline but the pace of the book didn't match the excitement for the change that this person was undertaking. I couldn't finish it.

An American woman meets a man in Venice, falls in love and packs up her life to live with him in his homeland - synopsis sounds romantic, but the story line fails to deliver. The book is more of De Blasi's romance with Venice than with the Venetian (who she calls "The Stranger"). The writing, however, is beautiful. De Blasi, a food writer, had my mouth watering with her descriptions of the meals and the Italian marketplace.

What a fabulous book! I lived just 45 minutes from Venice for four years. All of the places mentioned in this book are real, and the descriptions put you right there on the Grand Canal.
THOROUGHLY ENJOYED IT!
"A Thousand Days in Venice" is a very romantic and personable non-fiction story, which I enjoyed from beginning to end (and this may be because I'm a TOTAL romantic). Marlena De Blasi writes with honesty displaying her comfort in her own skin and describes Venice with such luster causing almost any reader to fall in love.
I recommend this book to older teens and adults who appreciate romance in all its forms.

When I first read the reviews of this book I was unsure if I wanted to order it, but order it I did and I am happy I did. This book is a story of romance for a older couple, not a 20's or 30's romance. This story is very poetic and very descriptive from the scents of food, scenery, relationships and the culture. You will not be disappointed while reading this. It's a can't put it down book.
I love reading books about women traveling alone. The fact that the author married halfway through didn't dim my delight. Her descriptions of loving and living in Venice were charming.
This is a wonderfully romantic tale of love "at a certain age". Set in beautiful Venice, the author shares both the good and not so good of its current state. She also shares freely the trials and difficulties of making a huge life change. A fabulous read!

I picked this book up on a whim, and I loved it.
As I had fallen in love with Venice on my honeymoon, I couldn't resist this story. Although it is at times difficult to connect with the writer's emotions during this journey, it is nevertheless a charming book and took me back to my deep feelings for Venice. This is a story about an American woman who loves to cook, takes a trip to Venice, and makes a life changing decision at a time when her children are grown and on their own. She struggles along the way with being a strong woman, being an American in a foreign country, and the need for love and self-purpose. The book also contains ten of her recipes at the back, as well as a Reader's Guide.
