I've been surprised over the negative comments about THIRD DEGREE, mostly because I enjoyed it so much. As far as thrillers go, it's not amazingly original, but the writing is great and it moves along at a really good clip.

This isn't about crazy terrorists, gun-toting assassins, or super spies. It's simply about a marriage that has fallen apart, a husband who has literally gone over the deep end, and a wife trying her best to both apologize for her betrayal and keep safe everyone she loves the most.

I read THIRD DEGREE in a day, because I didn't want to put it down once I started. For me, a really enjoyable read!

Very well written. I started reading on a lazy Sunday afternoon and couldn't put it down. Read the entire book in the span of 6 hours! Won't be my last Greg Iles read. Definitely couldn't predict the ending!

I wasn't expecting much of this book, just an engaging and entertaining story. Wow! The author takes you on a first row seating to a train wreck that seems to never stop. Just when you think things will clear up, another piece of the train falls over. I had the unabridged audio version and once I got into the story I couldn't wait to get back in my car to hear what would happen next.

Great read or listen!

I wasn't sure I would like this after reading the first 50 pages....it's a very compressed timeframe that takes place over the 450+ pp of this book. But I read it in record time and enjoyed the story.

Greg Iles writes another page turner. I've never read one of his books I didn't like. This one isn't as gritty as some of his previous works, but his characters pull you into the story from the first page. He definitly knows how to grab your interest. I like Mr. Iles writing because of it's intelligence, but not so many little details that you lose interest. He still keeps the story moving at a fairly good clip.

I enjoyed the suspense involved in this story, but it dragged much longer than it needed to. There was a lot of unnecessary background on each character taht was very informative, but tended to drag the flow of the story down. This was the first book from this author that I've read, but it won't be the last.

This was a good book. I wasn't crazy about the plot but found myself getting sucked in, in spite of myself. Quite suspenseful, and the suspense lasted through most of the book! There were some surprising endings as well.

I liked this book, but it wasn't my favorite Greg Iles novel. Take place mostly in one setting (the doctor's house) and a small amount of time at his office.

You know those audiobooks that make you want to take extra trips to the store, or sit in your driveway a little longer just to see what happens next? This is one of those! I loved this story - there was so much tension, you felt like you were in the house yourself. I didn't care a lot for the ending, but it was a logical conclusion when taken with the entire story, I suppose. Just a little abrupt, I thought. I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it if you like suspense & psychological thrillers.

In the span of twenty-four hours everything Laurel believes to be true about her life and marriage to a prominant doctor will be shattered. The day begins with the jarring discovery that soon after ending an affair, she is pregnant...but that is only the beginning of her nightmare. She finds herself at a standoff with a husband she barely recognizes, ashen, unkempt and on the brink of violence - who confronts her with evidence of her betrayal...

Started out a little slow and thought about not finishing it a couple of times but I kept reading and ended up being drawn into the book. Was a very good book, I ended up reading way into the night and getting up first thing to finish the last three chapters. I don't agree with the people that said it was predictable because I had no clue how the story was going to play out.

It could have ended many different ways so I would say this is one of the first books in a while that had me wondering how it would end. Yes you can assume how it will end but with the excellent writing style that was in this book you couldn't really be sure if the book would end that way or not.

This was my first Greg Iles book and I'm going to search for more right away. I can't wait to read more of his books.

Thriller about a woman whose Dr. husband holds her and their children hostage while he tries to determine who she had an affair with. Fast moving, well written, but I didn't care much for some of the characters.

The story line was good to a point. I found it very hard to believe that Warren, mild mannered doctor, could become that violent towards his wife and that callous towards his children - despite the twist of why he was acting that crazy. The thing that bothered me the most though was the product placement. Did Iles get paid by these companies? The specific brand of couch, vodka, etc. was listed numerous times. Why? There was no need for it to tell the story and it was very annoying. (Just like product placement in our TV shows have become prevalent and also very annoying.)

I found myself skipping over paragraphs at a time because the book seemed to drag on. I did continue to read the book since I wanted to find out the ending but it seemed to take a very long time to get there.

Good book and storyline; however, I found myself wanting to smack the heroine, Laurel, for her indecisiveness and inaction in confronting Warren, and in escalating the situation. Also, her son needs a smack on his tush for not listening and obeying adults in authority, which causes some circumstances to escalate. I also felt the story was drawn out a little longer than was really necessary. Still, Id recommend it.

RIch with Southern atmosphere and laced with the tactic deceptions and psychologocal cracks found in nearly all marriages, "third degree' delivers a knockout, page turning read!
Laurel locks herself in the master bathroom, opens a home pregnancy test kit and fearfully tests herself, Pregnant annouces the digital readout. Laurel closes her eyes as though absorbing news of death, then quickly hides the evidence, she is not sure who the father is.....

This is a review of an audio version of this book.

I have to agree with most of the negative reviews that readers have given this book. I was literally talking back to the characters everytime they did something dumb. I hate when authors don't give their readers enough credit.

SPOILER - When Grant slips back into the house through the dormer window - bizarre that the alarm wouldn't go off but it didn't SO why in the world didn't the sheriff's men go into the house the same way? Instead they abort the mission.

Laurel Shields doesn't have enough characterization to make her likeable or interesting; Warren Shields is horrible with no redeeming qualities - he's a mess, even without his medical condition, he's a cold, unloving man. Danny MacDavitt is too good to be true so he's boring as well. The only one I actually like in the whole book is Starlett!
