Good read. It's hard to keep track of the Arcane Society novels as they are written under two different names, Amanda Quick for the historical ones and Jayne Ann Krentz for the contemporary ones. I guess it makes sense but makes it harder to track down all of the series... This one contains the usual AQ/JAK assortment of intelligent and frequently unconventional characters, well written plot, warm romance and the triumph of the good guys over the bad buys.

Second Sight (2006)
The Third Circle (2008)
The Perfect Poison (2009)

Another great Arcane novel. Ms. Krentz has a way to keep you turning the page through mystery and romance. It holds a very sweet love story. I did enjoy "Sizzle and Burn" and "White Lies" more than this for some reason, but this book helps put pieces of the puzzle together within the Arcane Society that is necessary to the reader if you want to have the whole picture. This book shows you how Caleb becomes a strong force in the Society, though he is not one of the main characters until the end.

Leona Hewitt is in the midst of a complicated burglary when she stumbles upon the corpse of a beautiful woman. Almost instantly afterward, she spots a man. If he's the killer, Leona is in trouble. She may be dressed as a man--a definite no-no in proper Victorian society--but she's no physical match for the powerful male who discovers her. Instead of the killer, she discovers he's something almost worse--an investigator for the mysterious Arcane Society and a man who's after the same crystal she seeks. Considering that the Arcane Society has attempted to keep the crystal from Leona's family for generations, there's certain to be trouble. With sexy men like Thaddeus Ware, though, trouble can sometimes be very pleasant.
Not pleasant at all is the reaction of Lord Delbridge--the man from whom the two steal the crystal. Delbridge needs that crystal desperately--with it, he'll be allowed membership in the elite Third Circle. Without it, not only will his application be denied, the Third Circle might decide he knows too much. Unfortunately for Leona and Thaddeus, Delbridge is intelligent and has hired a serial killer as an assistant (hence the body).
Author Amanda Quick writes a fun and sexy story. As with many of Quick's heroines, Leona is an intriguing (improbable) mix of innocence and energy--who finds sex to be just the thing. Secondary characters with lots of quirks add amusing touches to the adventure. Thaddeus doesn't really know what hits him when Leona moves into his life--but he serves as a stabilizing force in Leona's Mercurial life.
THE THIRD CIRCLE isn't Quick's strongest work, but it is an entertaining read. I found this one hard to put down.

I liked this book enough to look for another of the Arcane Society Series. Lots of action and twists and turns with enjoyably quirky characters.

If you like romance, mystery and a touch of gothic intrique, these books are great. I recommend reading them in order.

Sorry, boys and girls. I love this author, but this book did nothing for me. The characters, the storyline, just about everything seemed bland to me - even the obligatory sex scene was watered-down. Disappointing.

Very good read. I look forward to the next one.
Great addition to the Arcane Society series.
I love how daring the heroine is and the passion she has with the hero. Was a great book.
I've read some of Amanda Quick's Arcane Society novels set in a future on Planet Harmony, but this one is set in the Elizabethan past on Earth. Obviously I have more reading and backtracking to do before I catch up with all that has gone before.
That said, the novel stands on its own just fine. It's a quick and lively read. I recommend it.
Blurb from inside cover: Attempting to recover a relic stolen from her family years ago, gifted crystal worker Leona Hewitt secretly makes her way into Lord Delbridge's private museum. But the man she finds there is more entrancing than the crystal she seeks...
Thaddeus Ware is a mesmerist with powerful psychic energy--an energy that doesn't seem to be affecting the woman before him. Instead, Leona seems to exert a rather hypnotic power of the hypnotist himself. After she gives him the slip, absconding with the crystal they recovered, Thaddeus fears for her safety. For he is on assignment for the secretive Arcane Society and knows that the crystal holds the potential to cause great destruction. It is the key to Lord Delbridge's membership in a shadowy group known as the Third Circle. The nobleman has killed before to acquire the crystal, and Thaddeus has no doubt that he will kill again.

another great one by Quick with likeable characters and interesting storyline.
I enjoyed this book but not as much as her others. I found the whole psychic stuff a bit odd. I would stlll read the rest of the series.
