My first by this author and it was good. Part coming of age story, part mystery, part police procedural. I loved the island atmosphere and I felt I was there. It is mostly told from 11 year old Billy's perspective but we also have the perspective of Detective West brought to the island to help with the investigation of a missing teenage girl. There are red herrings and often Billy's kid POV can mislead us. It kept me interested but this was one of those books that gains momentum toward the end. I did love the ending. I wasn't aware there are more books featuring these characters until the author's note at the end. I will read the 2nd book because I'm curious where it will take us.
