I thought I was well educated about American history, but this book proved me wrong. I knew Ted Roosevelt landed in the first wave at Utah beach on D-Day, June 6, 1944. What I was unaware of was his personal role in leading troops beyond the beach. For this he was awarded the Medal of Honor after his death soon afterwards.
I was also unaware he had been the assistant secretary of the Navy at one point, a position once held by his father, and also governor-general of both Puerto Rico and the Philippines. In both of these last two positions he worked hard for the people and won their admiration.
One interesting piece of trivia is Ted Roosevelt and his son were the only father-son team to go ashore on D-Day, although on different beaches. And, years later, when President Clinton awarded the Medal of Honor to former President 'Teddy' Roosevelt, for his actions in Cuba during the Spanish American war, the Roosevelts became only the second father-son team to hold his honor.
I won't comment here on his numerous adventures in World War I and his trips to regions of Asia, but Theodore Roosevelt, Jr's life was one great adventure. You'll enjoy reading about it.
One final comment, while running for political office, one organization Ted was associated with received the support of the KKK. Ted publicly disclaimed association with their cause and resigned from that organization. This man knew what was right.
