The bawling of the longhorns, the lonesome night watch beneath a vast, starry sky, they got into a man's blood until he knew there was nothering better than the life of a cowboy. Will was the most beautiful man Idalou Ellsworth had ever set eyes on. When he appeared at her fron door, she was struck speechless at the very sight of him, Folks in Dunmore, Texas thought her bossy, too focused on rescuing her familys failing ranch to be interested in courting. But in Wills compnay she couldn't think of anything but him. And when the devil maycare cowboy took her in his arms she understood as never before the pleasures of being a woman.

In 1886, Will Haskins arrives in Dunmore, Texas to buy a bull from Idalou Ellsworth as he plans to start a ranch. However, the usually fiery Idalou is stunned into silence when she sees how beautiful Will is. However, the bull is missing so Will reluctantly agrees to help her and her brother get the critter back from her neighbor Jordan McGloughlin though Idalou's sibling would prefer his daughter instead.

Before he can blink and get the dazed Idalou to say coherent sentences, Will has become the temporary sheriff of the town. All the ladies in town think he is a hunk and those not married see him as an ideal spouse. However, he wants Idalou, but first must stop whoever is trying to destroy the Ellsworth siblings in what looks like a land grab from McGloughlin before his beloved does something dangerous on her own.

THe heroine was annoying. I didn't warm up to her AT ALL. She was whiney and insecure. Will was great. I loved him. THe book would have been a 5 star book if Leigh had written a better heroine.

This book wraps up the Cowboy series with the telling of the story of Will Haskins. The youngest of the boys adopted by Isabelle and Jake, Will has always had to deal with how people react to his incredible good looks. When Idalou does not fall over herself to attract his attention, Will is intrigued. As the unwilling sheriff of Dunmore, Will must try to help find the bull he had come to buy from Idalou. A predictable love story unfolds with a few twists and turns. Rustlers and schemes are part of the story also.
While enjoyable, I did not feel that this was one of the better stories that Greenwood has written. He usually has strong characters and I did not find Will or Idalou to have those characteristics.

Few authors if any can bring to life a late nineteenth century cowboy romance like Leigh Greenwood consistently does. His latest Texas tale starts with a terrific opening as the in your face Idalou is stoned silent when her eyes see Will for the first time, a condition no one who knows this wild termagant has ever seen before. The amusing story line is a combination of the taming of the no longer shrew and the hunk who adores her even more than her bull. TEXAS TENDER is a delightful historical romance with a touch of suspense that is clearly a Greenwood branded winner.
