Absolutely wonderful. I read it in 24 hours. I cried, I cheered and struggled along with the characters. It will grab you and not let you go until you turn the last page and then you won't be ready to let them go.

I enjoyed this book so much I quickly ordered the remaining books in the series. I have read and loved other series by Kathy Herman so I don't know how I missed this one! It was a terrific read...an enjoyable story with Christian faith elements woven throughout that really make you think.

This is the first book I have read by Kathy Herman and it will definitely NOT be the last. The suspense begins in the very first chapter. Rhonda and Jed Wilson are awakened by a window-rattling explosion. A house-boat has caught on fire and soon afterwards explodes. This tragedy has a major impact on the people in this small town of Baxter. Everything is not exactly as it seems and Jed is determined to find the truth.
Kathy Herman is a Christian author who tells a suspenseful story. It was hard to put the book down. Besides being a suspenseful thriller, this book is rich with character development, including their spiritual development. You see how the characters change in their relationship to each other and to God. Unlike some other mystery/thrillers I have read, I really cared what happened to the characters and came close to tears by the end.
This book is very realistic about how people react to tragedy in their lives. It asks the hard questions and shows us that life can be very cruel at times, but it does not have the bad language, sexual innuendo or graphic violence that many mysteries have.
I am looking forward to the 2nd of 5 books in the Baxter Series.

Great christian writer, I've enjoyed all of her books
A bizarre houseboat explosion rocks the close-knit community of Baxter to its core. Firefighters and friends stand by powerlessly as the blazing hull of their neighbors' home sinks to the bottom of Heron Lake.
HAVE ALL FIVE MCCONNELLS PERISHED IN THE FLAMES?
No one wants the truth more than Jed Wilson, Mike McConnell's best friend. When rescuers recover the remains of all but one family member, suspicion spreads like wildfire.
WAS IT AN ACCIDENT? OR MURDER?
Jed finds himself in a race with the FBI to track down the one person who may know what happened...and is thrust into a dynamic encounter with his own past.
Tested by Fire is the compelling story of a small community confronted with a loss of innocence - and of contemporary people trapped in the wreckage of guilt and despair. Can they somehow plumb the depths of God's mercy and grace?
