I loved the beginning. It was original and exciting how the three brothers claimed their inheritance together after a twelve-year absence. The reaction was volatile and realistic and portrayed the eldest son, Sebastian, as very human. However, he was obsessed with his family estate, which distracted him from forming a romantic relationship with Mary until later in the book. I was more interested in the brothers' stories and what happened to them during their separation. However, I have to wait until their stories come out to find out their painful journeys, which sets the stage for the typical family trilogies. Although I don't think this was a complete flop, I still felt it didn't live up to its thrilling prologue and first few chapters. 3.5 stars.

Very good book. Extremely well written, of course. I would expect no less from this author. I love the stories where they've known each other forever, as these two have. And I love the "beauty and the beast" theme. Especially when it's so well written. Looking forward to reading about Sebastians brothers as well, especially Rafe, as he seems to be the darkest of the brothers.
