Really liked this new book/series. The characters were really enjoyable. Like it the that heroine doesn't get shot finding the killer. The story is a smooth one and enjoyable read

As a cozy lover, I got your back. Life is too short to read sup par books. You read my review and you decide if you want to start this series.
You get your typical female slueth who returns to her small home town, and ends up knee deep in a murder investigation. Have you ever noticed that poison tends to be the method in most of the first in a cozy series?
Sophie, returns to her nana's tearoom, after her New York restaurant fails. I actually liked the first chapter where Sophie is on a date that is failing, and she decides to go home to Gracious Grove. The story seemed great so far, and then the murder happens. So the rest of the book is pages and pages of rehashing, the same useless clues and gossip. People are involved in a land development scandal, the victim broke up many a romance between women and her son, People had long time grudges. blah blah blah! The author just kept recycling this information, and actually has repeated questions about motive, swirling around in the Slueth's head. Really there was no reason for Sophie, the main character to even butt her nose into this. She wasnt even considered a suspect nor anyone she loved. Finally on page 269 the author writes, something along the lines, that Sophie she no closer to discovering the person who poisoned Viviane, and she was weary. That was how I felt as the reader. I made it to page 290, mainly because I wanted to read book 2.
The book was dull, the characters were not all that interesting, even the mystery was not all that interesting. There was very little about tea pots, nor tea. There are 3 cats in the book, but see the mouse on the cover? Never a mouse. The cats dont do much but purr, they in no way help solve the mystery.
The most likeable character was Dana, and I was certain she was the murderer. You will have to read it to find out if I was right, and if you want to read book 2 you need book 1, I gather. I am hoping book 2 is more about teapots and isnt so dull.
