This publication is available in 4 volumes and is not for sale to libraries. It is a troublesome fact on which even Mma Ramotswe and her assistant Mma Makutsi agree: there are things that men know and ladies do not, and vice versa. Another enjoyable day spent with Precious Ramotswe! This time she has a problem - her beloved little white van is dying, and she cannot tell her mechanic husband, because she is sure he will condemn it to the scrap-heap. Grace Makutsi has a problem too - her nemesis, Violet Sephotho, has taken a job at her fiance's furniture shop, and Grace is sure Violet intends to seduce Phuti away from her. And the new case they are investigating involves a soccer team that is losing for unknown reasons, and the two women are going to have to learn about football in order to solve it. Life goes on in Botswana, and each new book in the series is a pleasant interlude spent with familiar characters that have become dear to Smith's readers.

It's hard for me to rate this book compared to the others in the series because once I love a series, I love the whole thing. This book is more of the same. Everyday drama involving love of a car, love of a man, and as always, love of a country. Small intrigues and big wisdom. The writing is simple and clear, the characters are revealed a bit more in every book.

A lovely read, always full of wisdom, humor and fun. A very favorite series that I'm hoping to see the HBO production of the same.

I love the concept, and the inclusiveness, of "traditionally built." It epitomizes something about these books, some kind of comfortable acceptance with people and their various sizes and shapes and idiosyncracies.

This charming book is replete with bits of philosophy and wisdom that make you smile. Contrasted with the pessimism you feel reading the news, this reflects real life traits while still leaving you feeling good.

10th book in the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series. I thoroughly enjoy the writing style, the setting, the reflections by Precious on life in Botswana. Good read.
