Another top flight suspense/romance offering from one of the VERY BEST storytellers active today, and does it without the excessive sex and gore.

Coulter continues the suspense-filled series she began with The Cove (1996) and The Maze (1997), even bringing in some of the same characters. Her latest is set in the Colorado mountains, where Judge Ramsey Hunt has fled to recuperate after being forced to shoot a man during a melee in his courtroom. But his dream of peace and quiet is shattered when he discovers an unconscious, beaten, and sexually abused little girl who is too traumatized to speak. Reluctant to subject her to any more terror, Ramsey refrains from going to the authorities and cares for her himself. But once again, violence intrudes, first when two gunmen attempt to take the girl, and then when her mother, Molly, appears, ready to kill the man she believes is the kidnapper. Miraculously, Emma regains her voice in the nick of time, so Molly and Ramsey join forces and attempt to solve the mystery of her abduction. Emma is a target for any of a number of reasons--her father is a famous rock star with a gambling problem, and her grandfather is a Chicago Mob boss--and Coulter, who doesn't stint on humor or romance, keeps readers guessing.

I like this whole series of books. BUT out of the series this is the one I like the least. I think the plot and story would have been as gripping and and perhaps even better if the child in the story had only been kidnapped and being hunted. I just felt there was no reason to add in the knowlage of sexual assault. I don't know. When I was reading the story I just felt that part could have been left out, and the book wouldn't have been lacking and the story outcome/ending would have been the same.

Other then that the story was good. It was a page turner and you really wanted the main character to kick the bad guy's butts.

Another FBI thriller with Savich and Sherlock, love this series. I do recommend that you read these books in order so you can understand when they talk about other characters that are not a main one in this book. I can't ever put these down until they are read. This one is the 3rd in a series. It involves a kidnapping of a little girl and the judge who finds her in the wilderness. It will keep you guessing till the end!

Wow...one ending I never thought of. The person who did it is not the person I thought of.
After breaking up a hostage situation in his courtroom, Judge Ramsey Hunt became a hero. Soon, the constant media spotlight became a nightmare. With his temper close to erupting, Ramsey decides to get out of the media glare.

Ramseys newly acquired peace is shattered when he discovers a beaten and abused little girl unconscious in the wilderness. He fears she has been abducted and molested. The child appears to be mute, and when two men try to kill them, Ramsey knows something strange is going on.

When the childs frantic mother appears and threatens to kill him for abducting little Emma, it is Emma who convinces Molly Santana that Ramsey saved her life.

Molly fears that somehow the abduction has ties either to her rock star ex-husband Louey Santana or her crime boss father Mason Lord. Whoever is behind it, its clear that Ramsey, Molly and Emma arent supposed to escape with their lives.

I love this series. This is the third book in the series I believe, but you don't have to start at the beginning. The storyline was good, but the story itself was sad. I felt for little girl who'd been through so much. I wanted to see that bad man get wants coming to him just as much as Ramsey and Molly did. I was invested entirely in the characters' struggle.

I read a lot of books from mystery to westerns, and a lot of good ones at that, but I can say this was one that immersed me in and I couldn't take my face out of. I am now an instant fan of Catherine Coulter and I can't wait to get my hands on another one of her books. Just to think this book had been nestled on my bookshelf for years, as it was a selection in a book club long ago. Shame on me, but its like finding a lost treasure. There is so much to say about this book its loaded with suspense, intrigue, strong characters that you grow to love, twists, romance, thrills, but most of all its one you simply can't get away from. Just when you think you can put it down it grabs hold and makes you read on. What a thrill ride from start to finish. If your looking for one of those books you cherish, one that you will remember for a long time, and even one you might pick up again just to read over and enjoy again, well this is the book for you. Hats off to you Ms. Coulter. I can't wait to see what some of your other books have in store for me. Probably many sleepless nights!
