The patchwork Tapestry features stories from four mavens of medieval-era romances-Lynn Kurland, Madeline Hunter, Karen Marie Moning and Sherrilyn Kenyon. Moning's hilarious tale ("Into the Dreaming") of a contemporary writer who lands in the 15th century and falls in love with a Scotsman is the highlight of the collection, and Kurland's "To Kiss in the Shadows," a romance between a blemished beauty and a dark arts master, provides plenty of lighthearted fun as well. Kenyon's bizarre offering ("Dragonswan"), however, takes readers on a fanciful journey to a time when sexy superhumans fought against beings possessing animal hearts. Hints of the supernatural are threaded throughout these three entries, which makes "An Interrupted Tapestry," Hunter's conventional romance between a German merchant and an English noblewoman, seem strangely out of place. Still, this enchanting, if mismatched, collection is a fitting introduction to the authors' works.

The rare compilation work in which all stories are equally clever and strong. The first two stories are historical, the last two magical, which are the two genres I read. Eclectic and varied yet all woven together on one theme. Highly recommend.

Great, and steamy short stories. One of my "Keepers" that i'm finally letting go of.

Four novellas-
First "To Kiss In The Shadows" by Lynn Kurland, is about an heiress who lost all her family to the pox. She is shunned at court because of the scars that mar her once beautiful face. She just hopes the king makes a good match for her so that she can leave the cruel women of court. She never dares to hope for love or a handsome face.

2nd- "An Interrupted Tapestry" by Madeline Hunter. Giselle was once part of a proud and rich home but her brother has borrowed against all his and her assets. Andreas is an old friend who collected too many unpaid I.O.U.s from her brother and cut off all contact. When Giselle's brother is held for ransom, she goes to Andreas for help but all that Andreas is interested in is her virtue.

3rd- "Dragonswan" by Sherrilyn Kenyon. Sebastian is of a mythical Drakos race (human with dragon traits) who comes to modern times to recover a tapestry. He meets Channon and is instantly attracted. They make love and he discovers he is mated to her. When a Drakos is mated, they are only allowed to love and have a family with that mate, otherwise they are doomed to life of celibacy. Sebastian must take Channon back to his time to protect her. He decides that he will not use his powers to persuade her to stay with him but his life depends on it.

4th- "Into the Dreaming" by Karen M. Moning. The Fae king tricks highlander, Aedan into serving a 5 year sentence to save his people, only the 5 years is in Fae years which is 500 years. 500 years in the Fae ice prison, acting as servant to the Fae king, leaves him a shell of his former self with no memories. The Fae queen wanting to counteract this cruelty, gives him dreams to keep him sane. Jane a modern woman shares these dreams and is totally ruined for any relation in the real world because what man can compare to the highlander of her dreams. When Aedan is released from his prison, a Tapestry sends Jane back to his time. He has no memory of her and rejects all her advances. Now she has a month to get Aedan to remember his self and his dreams or he will return to being a servant to the Fae king.

I enjoyed this collection. I love the writings of these four ladies. "Into the Dreaming" by Karen marie Moning has been published at some other time, but I'm not sure when or where. Overall, a very good collection of novellas.

A great combination of short stories. I thoroughly enjoyed each of them! Each centered around a tapestry for that particular set of characters. The stories came alive and I was invested in the characters - as always, I would have liked more, but that is the nature of short stories (at least for me).

I admit that I got the book for 3 of the authors - Kenyon, Moning & Kurland. Hunter was a pleasant surprise! I look forward to seeing what else she has written. Hunter's story was a historical romance, as was Kurland's. Kurland's story goes along with her other books that center around the De Piaget or Mac Leod families. Kenyon's is part of her Dark Hunter series - it is early in the timeline and the first time we see the conflict between the Arcadians and Katargaria. Moning's is the final story in her Highlander series. Her story has a nice touch of Scotland and Faery.

As I wrote, a great combination - I highly recommend it!

Welcome to a world of chivalry and honor, of danger and desire, of legend, and of love.... These four original novellas bring to life all the romance and adventure of the Middle Ages, with the common thread of a rich medieval tapestry woven through each tale by an acclaimed master of historical romance.....

I bought this book just to read Into the Dreaming by Karen Marie Moning. Aspiring writer Jane Sillee lost her inspiration when her vivid dreams of a highlander stopped. When she wakes up on a grassy bank to find her highlander is at the castle nearby, Jane believes she is dreaming. She soon finds she has traveled back in time to 1428, and her Highlander, Aedan MacKinnon, doesn't remember her. Actually, he doesn't remember anything, including the fact that he is a human. Aedan was imprisoned by the Unseelie King for 500 years. His only contact with humans was his dreams of Jane. Now those are gone too.

Usually I'm not crazy about short stories but this one is very good. I always love a tortured hero and Aedan MacKinnon fits the bill. My rating: 4 Stars.
