Thoroughly enjoyed the story! Estep's great at developing her characters into well-formed people. I enjoy the humor, personalities, actions, and relationships. I recommend starting at book one. I'm not sure if reading out of order would hinder one's enjoyment. I'm keeping my copy! Can't wait for the next book in the series!!

Are you going to kill this guy? Or are we just going to sit here all night?
With that opening line, Estep does not let me down with the fourth installment of her Elemental Assassin series. Gin Blanco and the rest of the characters are just as snarky as ever but now Estep reveals that even a hard-ass assassin can find love and acceptance. My favorite scene has to be at the end when Gin walks into Owens living room with her baby sister at her side. I actually had tears starting!
Tangled Threads focuses on Gins vendetta on Mab Monroe for killing her family. The only other survivor is Gins baby sister, Bria, who is now a police detective who has made it her goal to find the Spider and stop her from killing. Little does she know that the Spider and Brias missing sister Genevieve Snow are one and the same but now known as Gin Blanco. Gin struggles with how she is going to reveal herself to Bria. She doesnt think she could handle it if Bria rejects her. Before she can deal with Bria, she must finish her war with Mab. Slowly Gin works her way up the ladder, leaving her mark so that Mab knows the Spider is gunning for her. Mixed into all of this, Gin is also struggling with her feelings for Owen. She is just waiting for that day that Owen looks at her with disgust and leaves her like Donovan Caine did. Owen is making it pretty clear that he is in it for the long haul and is patient with her. And to just make matters even more complicated, Mab has hired another assassin named LaFleur to take out the Spider once and for all.
Another fast-paced amazing read. Estep knows how to keep a reader glued to her stories. If you have missed the other books in the series it is time to start catching up!

This is the fourth book in the Elemental Assassin series. Right now there are five books contracted for this series (although the author stated on her blog she would like the write a sixth). The fifth book, Spider's Revenge, is due to be released September 2011. This book was an excellent addition to this series. We learn a lot of back-story about Bria and Gin; and Gin starts to come to terms with the relationship she is developing both with Owen and with Bria.
This book starts out shortly after the last book ended. Gin has been harassing Mab Monroe for the last few weeks and taking down Mab's men, but Gin is getting restless with that and is gearing up to take Mab on personally. Then Gin finds out that Mab has hired the notorious assassin LaFleur; not only to take out the Spider, but also to take out Gin's sister Bria. Now one more obstacle stands between Gin and Mab, and Gin will stop at nothing to protect the people she loves.
All in all this was an excellent book. It was paced well and had a lot of great action scenes. We get to see Gin do some awesome magic and we also get to see Gin's softer side. As the assassin Spider, Gin has had to do horrible things, but she has finally found a man that can accept that. We get to watch as Gin and Owen's relationship turns into something more than just an attraction. Gin has yet to reveal her identity as the Spider to her sister Bria, and she can only hope that Bria will accept her as readily as Owen has. It was great to see Gin finally dealing with her feelings about these things and watch her grow into a better and more content person.
LaFleur was an okay bad guy, but left something to be desired. LaFleur only liked to kill in one way and only had one goal in mind, and this made her a pretty uncreative and two-dimensional villain. Gin could have used a better baddie to face off with, but the fight scenes between them were pretty good.
Gin is still snarky and there is some sarcastic humor laced throughout the book; although it was toned down in this book. There were still a couple scenes that had me laughing a bit. Estep's writing style is fun and easy to read and I enjoyed it a lot.
I did have a couple small problems with this book. The first was that Gin doesn't really use her elemental powers in new and exciting ways. Sure she finds a new way to use her Ice magic, but outside of that we see a lot of the tricks we saw in previous books; nothing really new and exciting. The other thing that bothered me was all of the back story. I love some back story to remind me of what happened in the previous books, but the back story in this book was extremely repetitive. Gin repeats things about her and Bria over and over and makes the same comments about her past over and over. There were times where I stopped to check and make sure I wasn't rereading the same page over again because the phrases were identical, and I wasn't...it was just very repetitive. The good thing about it is I don't think you would have to read previous books to enjoy this one, the bad thing was the repetitiveness of the back story drove me crazy.
Overall this was a solid addition to the series, but not as good as the previous couple books. While it is wonderful to see Gin settling down into her life and becoming more comfortable with the people in her life and the emotions they evoke; I was a bit disappointed we didn't see a more creative use of magic in this book and I also found the main bad girl (LaFleur) to be boring and two-dimensional. I was also bothered by sheer amount and repetitiveness of back story included (phrases were repeated over and over). Still I enjoyed the book and had fun reading it. I am hoping we get to Gin's final face-off with Mab in Spider's Revenge and can't wait to read that book.

These stories just keep getting better and better. In this latest installment, Gins relationship with Owen grows, secrets are revealed about Fletcher, and Mab has hired a new assasin to take out Gin, Bria, and "The Spider"
Awesome series, cannot wait for the next book!

The best book I've in the series . . . only I thought that for the last several books also. I could have written that same thing several books in a row.
What makes this book so good? Well the stories of each of the characters. In this book you get to know a lot of the characters a little bit better.
The romance is also good. I don't generally buy urban fantasy / supernatural romance for the romance. It's there, and I appreciate the effort, but I generally couldn't care less about the love lives of the protagonists. . . only this time I do.

The fourth in the Elemental Assassin series finds Gin Blanco's life threatened by the most dangerous assassin yet, a fire elemental with the unusual gift of controlling electricity. Mab Malone, doyenne of the rich and criminal, has hired her to take out the Spider. Since killing Elliot Slater, one of Mab's top men, to keep him from killing her sister, Detective Bria Coolidge, Gin's been on a mission to kill off Mab's men and Mab's been on a mission to kill her - or more correctly, the Spider. Still, something feels wrong when she follows a tip on drugs coming in for Mab - and thanks to her patience sees LaFleur in action. Elektra La Fleur might be an assassin, but unlike Gin, she doesn't use weapons, she uses magic.
Things aren't what they seem and once again, when the tipster is a man with a kidnapped daughter that was blackmailed into giving out the info in a effort to lure the Spider into a trap. Gin tries to save an innocent child from Mab's plans, find a way to tell her sister who she is, and stay alive long enough to kill LaFleur so she can get to Mab - the woman responsible for killing her mother, older sister and torturing her when she was just 13.
Like all series, this book follows Ms Estep's formula, but does so with verve. Unfortunately, is has the feeling of having been written in haste - too many redundancies, not enough new material - or even new phrases, and like too many books these days, unpolished. That got old fast. Yes, we get she's the deadly assassin Spider, no need to say it 100 times in the book. Tight editing would have helped. A few proofreading errors, but that seems par for the course today.
I gave it a 4* rating, but it's more like 3.6*. Good, but not up to the earlier books because of the sloppy editing and annoyingly persistent repetition of certain phrases.
