Wow. Excellent mystery, IMO. Primary sleuth is Dr Zol Szabo, a public health doctor. Through old friendships, he is drawn into a case of sometimes-fatal gastroenteritis at an upscale nursing home in Hamilton, Ontario. The plot is tight, with relevant information revealed throughout the book. We (think we) know mid-way who the bad guy is, but we don't know his motive(s), or how Zol & Co will catch him. The nursing home characters are interesting and believable. Zol's colleagues are interesting and diverse. The plot has a sufficient number of red herrings that turn out to be clues.
Zol's son, 10 yr old Max, is not a precocious brat. He appears to be a bright kid who pays attention, so he is essential to the final rescue.
The local libraries don't have Pennie's other titles, so I just added them all to my Wish List.
