This is the second book in the Highlander series. The story of Grimm and Jillian. Grimm we first meet in Beyond the Highland Mist, where he has a minor roll. Here we learn Grimm's story. Grimm is a Berserker, a race of legenday Scottish warriors. Not understanding what he is, and believing it will lead him to madness and possibly murder Grimm spends years running from himself and a clan, the McKanes, that has vowed to hunt and destroy the line of warriors. Enter Jillian, Grimm's true mate. He however is afraid he will bring her nothing but pain and death and pushes her away at every opportunity. The first half of the book is simply Grimm's struggle with accepting who he is and Jillian's love.
It wasn't my favorite of the series. It was good, but probably the least exciting. I still recommend this book because it is just as vital to read if you plan on catching the entire series. She has a fabulous way of combining celtic mysticism and historical romance without feeling forced. This is a wonderful series.

This is my favorite book of ALL time. Karen Marie Moning outdid herself in this book, showing Grimm to have this beautiful longing for a woman he's known his entire life. The sexual tension between these two is thick enough to slice glass! :)

I think these Highlander books start off very slowly. They all have a similar theme, the man (or woman) has some secret that he/she thinks is unworthy of the other's love. Always underestimating their bond to each other. However, I really want to know the full fae story to see how it relates to the Fever series, because I read that first. The end is always good and the book is quite steamy.
Helpful Score: 2
Not much of a plot and a lot of similar scenes repeated for the first 200 pages: Gorgeous man with terrible secret thinks he's not good enough for amazingly beautiful and rich nobleman's daughter. Keeps pushing her away. Lots of physical descriptions and plenty of passionate scenes. The Celtic and Viking legends are interesting and Moning can tell a good story, but this one didn't hold my interest. I started this series with The Dark Highlander and it's still my favorite of the bunch.

Loved this book. It's the story of Grimm who is introduced in "Beyond the Highland Mist." He is an honorable and fierce warrior who happens to be a Berserker. He is summoned by Gibraltar St. Clair to "come for Jillian". As he owes much to the St Clair he leaves at once. Jillian is the St Clair's daughter who discovered Grimm as a wild dirty boy when he was 14 and she was younger. They are in love with each other but that love is undeclared. There are three warriors who are competing for Jillian's hand in marriage. Grim feels he is not worthy of her and encourages her to marry one of the other two suiters. The ending of this book ties up lots of misconceptions held by Grimm towards his father. The whole series is worth reading.
Helpful Score: 1
When Jillian, a 21 year old woman bent remaining single finds three eligable and handsome gentleman in her home, she doesn't know what to think, especially since one of them is a man she's sworn never to forgive. Grimm has never been able to push the spunky and beautiful Jillian out of his mind, and now that her father has summoned him to seduce her, he's torn between duty to himself and duty to his heart.

A little slow to get started. It was hard to like "Jillian" at first. "Quinn was a gem of a character, but "Grimm" lacked depth. There was an interesting twist toward the end however.

To Tame a Highland Warrior by: Karen Marie Moning was a really good book. I really liked this hero's style when he was teasing and bullying the heroine. Mean as he was there was never a doubt that he adored her. I think it was neat how even the heroine could kind of tell. Even though she couldn't really put her finger on why, she kept believing she had a chance with him even though he rejected her point blank over and over again. I can't get over how good this writer is.

For a romance I was shocked. It's kind of like a mushy book with a little darkness, aot of love, supernatural happenings, true love and some SERIOUS crushing.
This is only the second historic romance I have ever read. Even though the book description was super cheesy, it actually wasn't bad. It read like any other romance novel with a slight variation on speech on some vocabulary.
Grim was a nice solid alpha male, brooding and all. He could be a bit of a whiner but somehow he still came off as pretty sexy. It was probably due to his interactions with all the side characters. Their teasing added to Grim's character. I really liked the friendship between Quinn and Grim. Jillian was pretty spirited which made it fun. I was expecting to see more of an ice-princess act and was glad we didn't. The banter between Grim and Jillian was entertaining. I would have loved to read more about how Jillian's parents got together.
It was a quick, fast read with a predictable but interesting plot. Of course I'm sure historians everywhere are rolling in their graves due to all the inaccuracy (clothing, looks, etc...), but if you aren't picky on that it was an enjoyable book.

A Woman's Tender Touch
He was born to a clan of warriors of supernatural strength but Gavrael McIllioch abandoned his name and his Highland castle, determined to escape the dark fate of his ancestors. Hiding his identity from the relentless rival clan that hunted him, he called himself Grimm to protect the people he cared for, vowing never to acknowledge his love for ravishing Jillian St. Clair. Yet even from afar he watched over her and when her father sent an urgent summons, "Come for Jillian," he raced to her side -- into a competition to win her hand in marriage.
A Warrior's Steely Heart
Why had he run from her so many years before? And why now to see her offered as a prize in her father's manipulative game? Furious, Jillian vowed never to wed. But Grimm was the man she loved, the one who urged her to marry another. He tried to pretend indifference as she tempted him but he could not deny the fierce desires that compelled him to abduct her from the alter. She was the only woman who could tame the beast that raged within him -- even as deadly enemies plotted to destroy them both ...

This was a pretty interesting book--the premise was that the hero had a problem, he was born a Berserker and he feared that it would cause problems with his love. Love, however, conquers all, along with the usual problems along the way (clan wars, misunderstandings, parental conflict, additional suitors). For me, an easy read, took just a day to finish--a nice escape. Looking forward to Books 1 & 3.
