this is the first book in a series of about 5 books. the author lives and works in San Franscico and the book comes from his daily column in the local newspaper.
if you are a child of the '70's and you are not easily offended by pot smoking, gays and lesbians and just plain funny stuff...then read this book and then the rest of the series

This was my first glimpse at life in San Francisco - years before I ever dreamed I'd be living here one day. Warm and funny, tongue in cheek, witty and biting - a deliciously good read! About making the friends of a lifetime, following your dreams, and figuring out what your dreams are in the first place. Read it!

So fun to read this book, brought back memories of having been there, done that!!
I enjoyed this when I first encountered this series; many years ago.
First volume (in the series of 6) later made into a miniseries on PBS's "American Playhouse".
