Good not great. The author goes back and forth between the Dodgers, Giants, and Yankees; the three teams with common New York roots and how they all came together in 1962. The Yankees coasted into the World Series so the detail on this team is lighter and the emphasis is on the Dodger and Giant seasons.
Eye opening - the Dodger collapse in September. The Giants played good, not great but when the Dodgers simply stopped scoring runs, it didn't take great baseball to catch them and eventually capture the pennant in a playoff.
The author touches on every player on all three rosters, which is a waste unless you want to know what the third string catcher for the Giants did during and after the 1962 season. A little on everyone means not enough "meat" on the key players from all rosters. A retrospective 50 years later is bound to leverage stuff already written and this book is no exception. It's a interesting twist but largely rehash. Not a waste at all for those interested in early 60's baseball, which describes me, but lower your expectations.
