Enjoyable read with some thought-provoking Prime Directive ethical dilemmas that arise when the Star Trek crew blindly help creatures that are being attacked without knowing the motives of their attackers. Capt Riker is married to Deanne Troi and commanding the Titan but they aren't a big focus of the story, except in regard to Deanna's telepathic abilities communicating with the skymount creatures.
The begining of a new star trek odyssey: after almost a decade of strife against many foes, starfleet is renewing its mission of peaceful exploration. The starships spearheading that endevor is the USS Titan commanded by Riker and manned by the most varied and diverse crew in SF.
This was a good story, tying in what happens to Riker, Troi & the Romulans after the movie.
Another Star Trek tale you've got to read!
Enjoyed this one and will read the other two books in this series. It was good to see what Riker, Troi and others were doing since the last movie, Nemesis!
The starship Titan under Captain William Riker begins her mission by going to Romulus to help avert civil war after the events in Star Trek: Nemesis.
I love seeing Riker begin his command and, since the crew is less than 15% human, there is a much more varied crew to get to know.
This is an excellent first book, I hope the other books in the series can maintain this level of excitement and interesting characters.

I really didn't like this one - but I've never liked Riker's character either, and he's central to the plot. There seemed to be too much emphasis on the species-diversity of the crew, which was a platform to invent as many bizarre & improbably aliens (with unpronouceable names) as possible. The political intrigues were confusing, and I had trouble keeping the characters straight.
This is a very good book and a easy read. It lets Riker have his day, finally, not to mention his own ship, again, finally. I liked the fact that the Enterprise is no where in this book as far as the plot goes. In other words, Riker doesn't rely on the big E to save the day. This truly is a new start for Riker and Troi.
There is a lot of story going on in this book, keeping up isn't that hard however. This book does a good job in wrapping up the movie Nemesis, so if you haven't seen that yet you need too. (But really, who hasn't.)
The ending, I thought, seemed to have been done before but it does lead into the second book. So, have the second book well on its way before you get to the end. You will want to jump right into it ...

This is by far my favorite Star Trek series. Finally Riker is captain of his own ship...with Troi by his side. I do not want to go into too much detail because I do not want to give away parts of the book (and I hate reviewers that do). If you loved "Star Trek: The Next Generation" then you MUST read this series. Well at least read this book, the characters are rich, the plot fantastic, you will not be disappointed.
