This is an unusual story of a prison guard, Gabrielle, following an escaped convict into the desert. Staying alive becomes their common goal & an unexpected relationship develops. I put off reading this for a long time but enjoyed it when I finally decided to see what it was all about.

To support herself and her one-year-old daughter, Gabrille Hadley is working as a prison guard - just about the only job available in the small desert town of Florence, Arizona. Randall Tucker is a prisoner at Florence, convicted of murdering his wife. He has one goal; to survive until he can prove his innocence and reclaim his eight-year-old-boy. Holds you right to the last page. I really enjoyed this book.

I have not found one of Brenda Novak's books that I do not like this is a dupicate of one I am keeping and a great read. To support herself and her one-year-old daughter Gabrielle Hadley is working as a prison guard-just about the only job available in Florence Arizonia. Randall Tucker is a prisoner at Florence convicted of murdering his wife. He has one goal: to survive until he can prove his innocence-and reclaim his eight-year-old son. When he escapes during a prison transfer, Gabriele follows him inot the unforgiving desert. Within the course of a single day, staying alive becomes the only thing that matters. The balance of power between guard and prisoner changes as they-re drawn together in a struggle to survive. Its' a relationship that's not suppose to exist-and yet it might save them both.

A really interesting story of a man falsely accused of murder and a female prison guard. From trying to survive inside the prison to trying to survive in the hot Arizona desert, these two have to depend on one another and try to clear his name.

This was Brenda Novak's second full-length novel and I was gripped from the start.
