"Taking Flight" has a very different ending than Watt-Evans' other books. It didn't end with all the problems of the main characters resolved. But this is because the book is about growing up. As such, when you reflect upon it, it might be one of his best.
One of my favorites authors favorite series. Good, but not one the best.
