Great essays - many were read on This American Life.

Sarah Vowell is amazing - so funny and so observant. Great insights on America - historically and currently.

Vowell's clever and distinctive voice from NPR covers topics from the ambience of the Chelsea Hotel and the goth subculture to a moving personal journey down the Cherokee Trail of Tears. A fresh and honest look at the squirmy slow demise of the American Dream.

Love her writing. She has a wonderfully off beat perspective on the world.

I didn't enjoy this as much as "Assassination Vacation" (also by Sarah Vowell) but I do enjoy a good, David Sedaris-esque collection of essays and Sarah has entertainingly sharp wit. I will definitely be picking up more books by this author in the future.

A funny set of essays from a writer with both an excellent sense of humor and an interestingly twisted view of the world and her place in it. Recommended.
