Not a bad book, just not as good as the others in the series. Character development takes a backseat to the story, with a plot that is complex, convoluted and involves the most unlikeable cast of characters imaginable. If you are new to the series, start at the beginning.
Kate goes to Anchorage to try to solve a 31 year old murder.Thw woman says she is guilty, but her daughter says not.Jim follows her.
A Kate Shugak mystery set in Alaska with Trooper Jim and Mutt who as usual saves the day.
As always she has written a page turner
These are very good books. If you haven't read any of these you need to read them.Kate Shugak is very unique in crime fiction. If you haven't discovered this splendid North Country series, now is the time.

I have read all of Stabenow's Kate Shugak books. I think this one is one of the best of the lot.
this is about a mother who was sent to prison for murdering her child
A mother's crime, a daughter's devotion, a family's dark past.

***** Very good action book with great female heroine set in Alaska.
Excellent mystery, set in Alaska, keeps your attention!
Victoria Muravieff was convicted 31 years ago for murdering her son. Now she is dying and her daughter, convinced her mother is innocent, hires Kate to look back into the case. Kate doubts there is anything new to uncover, but she is proved very wrong when murder and attempted murder are the result of her digging up old bones. Stabenow is still going strong and the series is as good as ever.
Dana Stabenow's Kate Shugak series is an intelligent, very well written, funny, challenging mystery series. It is wonderful watching Dana's character development of Kate and all the other wonderful people who live in these books. A book series well worth reading!!
great book~
I love all of the books that Dana Stabenow has written about Kate Shugak. I think I have five now. this one is right up there along with the others. Don't be afraid to find them and read them. I am looking for more.
