This is a cute story for young girls. My 5-year old daughter found this book on a shelf at the bookstore and wanted it since she is obsessed with mermaids. I wasn't sure if this book was appropriate for her age but I decided it would be a good chapter book to read with her at bedtime. She absolutely loved the story and is very excited to continue the second book in the series. The story is about a young girl, Emily, who by accident learns that she is part mermaid and part human. She meets another mermaid, Shona, and they become fast friends. The two mermaids journey together to find Emily's father who she has never met. Emily learns about the love story between her mom and dad. This is a great story about friendship and relationships and the writing is very vivid...you can actually picture the beautiful colors and life in the sea!

Loved-loved-loved Emily Windsnap and can't wait to receive book 2! This book is written for 'tweens, but this 40-something mother just fell in love with the characters in the book. Emily and Shona's friendship reminded me so much of the best friend I made in 2nd grade and still have today. I read this book in a day. It was well worth the few hours it took to read it. And it's not just a "girls" book. Boys would find the adventure and intrigue very interesting.

A cute book, but nothing really special. There is a sequel but although Emily was fun to read about, I'd prefer to leave her in the happy ending of this book, so I won't seek out the next one.

Everybody has a secret. mine's a little different, though. I didn't even know about it until the first day of swim class in seventh grade.... here's my secret: I figured out that I'm a mermaid.

This is a great book for a young girl who wants something fun to read that won't make her think too much. It's a fun story that kicks off a series about a half-mermaid, half-human girl.

Yet another child of divorced parents and her angst about going thru the stages of life with few friends to confide in. It was an ok read, and I suspect will hit home better for those who have more of the same issues in their personal experience.
This book was amazing! I had to take it into bed at night so I could finish it! When Emily sneaks the boat away...that was a good part! If you have not read it, I totally recommend it!
It's a very good book for children. Mainly below the ages of 12. Book is about a girl named Emily who is half mermaid half human. There are 2 sequels to this story.

Young Emily Windsnap doesn't know much about her Dad. She just knows he's not around, and she certainly didn't think that he was a mermaid, until recently. For the new school year, Emily has to take swimming. Having never been in the water before, she's nervous. But she doesn't need to be because, as soon as she hits the water, she's a natural. She also has a tail when in the water. Naturally Emily begins to think of her Dad and tries searching for him.
The little girl in me is always excited about books with mythical creature like mermaids. That said, I think most little girls will enjoy the story as well. The adult in me says, "Yeah, it's an OK story, but I've seen this plot a dozen times before." So I'm a torn between the little girl and adult whether or not I'll read the rest of the series. I think I will because I felt the same way about The Lighting Thief by Rick Riordan and ended up loving some of the books after the first one.

This book was confusing and was hard to understand and get into to.
A delightful read for both me (36 years old) and my daughter (6 years old).

I loved this book. A good quick ready for anyone of any age to enjoy. If you love the little mermaid and still do as you have gotten older, you will love this book as well, as Emily takes on an Ariel like personality.
Lost interest
Very cool story of a 12 year old girl finding out she's a mermaid! There's adventures, mysteries, and a few small-time "battles". Good story for late elementary to middle school kids (mostly girls), but anyone can read any book!

A very good book, that told of a girl trying to find her father and the twist is that she happens to be a mermaid. She struggles with school and coming up with excuses to NOT swim, because then everyone will find out her secret. A must read.
If you like fiction, you will like this book about a normal girl, that finds out a secret about herself and her family.
