T&T Clark Companion to Liturgy: The Western Catholic Tradition (Continuum Companions)
TT Clark Companion to Liturgy The Western Catholic Tradition - Continuum Companions Author:Alcuin Reid Catholic liturgy is currently an area of considerable interest and debate if not controversy in Catholic scholarship. This companion will seek both to provide a sound grounding in the study of Catholic liturgy as well as credible scholarly input into the current debate about its nature and future by bringing together reputable historical and the... more »ological scholarship from varying perspectives whilst maintaining an editorial stance that is firmly grounded in sound Catholic liturgical tradition.Crucial to the importance of the book will be the examination of the status of mid-late twentieth century liturgical scholarship upon which the liturgical reforms of the Second Vatican Council were predicated and implemented, and how these assumptions are being re-examined today, particularly in the light of the liturgical reforms of Benedict XVI. The book structured as follows: Three introductory pieces that provide a student with some orientation in the study of various aspects of the liturgy. Part I seeks to cover the major areas of study in liturgical history. Part II seeks to examine the crucial question of the liturgical reform of the Second Vatican Council. Part III extends Parts I &II by discussing key themes in current liturgical study and debate. Contributors are to be invited based on their published competence or otherwise renown competence in their fields. In respect of Part II, key contributions will be sought from persons holding different perspectives on the issues in question. That Dom Daniel Saulnier of Solesmes is the world leader in the study of Gregorian Chant and that Archbishop Piero Marini played a key personal role in the work of the Liturgical Consilium following Vatican II justifies inviting these contributors to write in their own language and to prepare and publish a translation.
