This is Shakur's first novel written after his memoir, Monster. His story portrays life as an L.A. gang member with all its attendant violence, racism, drugs and street life in general. What I liked most about this novel is the genuine emotion and difficulty attached to a gang member trying to free himself from gang life and all of the complex struggle this entails.
