Another outstanding book by Anya Seton. I am from Maassachusetts and I learned a lot about our early Massachusetts's settlers that I never new before. You won't be able to put this book down, Plot and characters are awesome
This was a wonderful book! It was easy to read, straight forward and had all the necessary elements to keep you engaged in the book. The fact that it is heavily based on fact makes it even better. I may be biased since Elizabeth Winthrop is my ancestor but this is easily one of my favorite historical fiction books.
I thought this novel was fantastic. It was rich in detail and I thought it was immensely interesting. Elizabeth Winthrop is a fascinating character, and the historical detail is outstanding throughout the book. Her story is a bit bittersweet, but when I finished the book I felt like I had just finished a complex and delicious 5-course meal. I can't wait to read another book by Anya Seton.
Wonderful historical tale, with depth and understanding. I felt a greater sense of what living under Puritanism would have been like. Makes me glad to be a woman of today with religious freedom.
It was an incredible book. Truly, I thought I would be bored with it. This was definitely a leap of faith on my part. Alice, my historical fiction expert (she denies it but until she proves me wrong- it is the title she will hold), recommended this book. On her recommendation, I read it. I am sure glad I listen to her!
Seriously, though, forget heroines in some urban fantasy books, Elizabeth is my new kick ass heroine. The crap she went through, the fights she fought, the adversities she overcame. I will never, ever think I have too little or whine about what I desire without thinking of Elizabeth and her story!

I really liked this one for giving me a very good sense of what it was to live through the period of time-
