It took me awhile to get through listening to this book because each time I listened, I felt a knife twisting in my heart. This is an amazing memoir, that is shocking and eye opening. It is a story of family and a country torn apart by war because of the color of one's skin even though the Arabs and the Sudanese are both Muslim. Halima Bashir's strength and courage to speak out about the rape of women and children, destruction of land and property and the death of hundreds of thousands brought to light the plight of the people of Darfur. You cannot listen to this and not think, "What can I do? How can I help?". I very highly recommend.
