This book is about the shootdown of KAL Flight 007 in 1983, the intel and politics involved, and whether the Soviets thought they were shooting down a US "spy plane." I was asked to read it by someone "in the business". It goes at the subject from mulitple angles...the background, the planes, the intel, the national leaders, the technology. It was sort of interesting but long.

The author really did his homework. The level of detail was impressive, if tiresome. If I werent familiar with both intel and flying technology I would have been bored/lost in large parts of it.

If you are into the Cold War and its attendant conspiracy theories, it's worth a look. For anyone else, I recommend getting the Cliff's Notes.

What really happened to Flight 007.
One of Seymour M. Hersh's best efforts.
