Ten tales that amplify his prior novels: Cry, the Beloved Country and Too Late the Phalarope. Six of these, none of which project any hope for the inmates, reflect Patons years as principal of a reformatory for boys. The remaining stories dwell upon various paradoxes and evils of apartheid. These are well-written stories and are a nice supplement to his major works.
