Helpful Score: 2
The book was well-written and the author put a lot of thought into details. He used not only the 800 letters left behind, but newspapers from the day, military records, family records, etc.

Still, I skimmed a lot of the book. The story is frustrating and sad. Arthur and Masa write to each other for the rest of his life, always dreaming and wishing and sending each other gifts. I can't say more without spoiling things, only that it is not a cheerful book.
