A nice first effort from (OKAY, she's my friend) Uzuri Wilkerson. This vampire novel, set in Boston, is a lighthearted and sexy read. Action is a little slow sometimes, but the characterization and dialogue is well-written and sometimes hilarious. The love triangle between the human Celia, her vampire beau Victor and vampire hunter Jay is sizzling. A good beach read if you are a fan of the supernatural love story genre!

With an engaging heroine, her loyal bestie, two worthy love interests on opposite sides of a human vs. vampire battle, Ms. Wilkerson has delivered a great contemporary story with drama and humor.

Boston urbanite and bartender Celia has been dating a vampire, Victor, for the past several months. Theyve worked out their rules for dating (no magic, no biting, no bloodsharing) to their satisfaction and the only problem is what the future will hold what with her continuing to age and he remaining forever young.

However, the community has been experiencing some unexplained human deaths from vampires and consequently has attracted the attention of vampire hunters: one group of Boston Southies and a lone hunter from Dallas. The story follows the buildup of hostilities between the vampire and the hunters and how Celia becomes involved.

There is a nice rounding out of characters in the vampire nest: Ramsey, Bryce, Annie, Elizabeth, Milo, Arturo and others and in the hunters as well: Jay, Snipes, his wife and daughters, Colin, Harold. They all seem like regular people, regular guyswell except for one crazy old vamp.

Celias coworkers are an interesting mix of personalities as well: the crabby manager, a rockin DJ, a wannabe Romeo and their interactions are fun.

Celias family is briefly introduced as is a hinted at and unresolved mystery surrounding her grandmother leading us into book 2 of the series (Sour).

The setting of Boston flavors the story and adds interest.
