Great futuristic romance by Jayne Ann Krentz!
Looks like I'm the only one here who found the book less then average. As in nothing remarkable, nothing memorable, nothing interesting. Heroine was over enthusiastic, hero over sarcastic. She was too innocent (to a point one can call her stupid) and he had super ego (not in a positive way). The story had interesting premise, but it has been done a thousand and one times, and this version of it was not well executed. I found my self bored and skipped whole sections. As it turns out I didn't miss anything. I read books by Amanda Quick (also known as Jayne Ann Krentz) that I enjoyed, but this was a waste of my time. Skip this early work (1989), of today well known author, because it is that EARLY WORK and definitely NOT her best.
Sweet Starfire, as well as two other early futuristic romances penned by Krentz (Crystal Flame and Shields Lady), are precursors of the current spate of futuristic romances she is writing under the pseudonym, Jayne Castle. Quite frankly, I think these earlier works are a lot meatier than the newer books. The characters are a little more unique and individual and the plots more satisfying. Of the three, my favorite is Shield's Lady, although I enjoyed reading Sweet Starfire and Crystal Flame. I read all three back in the 90s and decided to reread them. Glad I did.

This is one of the first Jayne Ann Krentz books I ever read, more than 20 years ago. I picked it up not even knowing it was going to be a futuristic/paranormal romance. It was a keeper, and still holds up really well. The hero pilots his own spaceship (think Firefly) and the heroine hitches a ride to another planet. Krentz created an entire world, and it must have been a lot of work, because the details all mesh and make sense. Quite well written.
"Sweet starfire. One of Jayne Anns Krentz earlier books, but still well written and a joy to read.
