I believe this is Harris' first published mystery; it was originally published in 1981 and re-released in 2007. It's a very light, fun read. You can see elements of Aurora, Sookie, and Lily in the main character.

Harris's first novel about a young woman who believes her parents death was not a simple car accident. As events continue to unfurl in her small Mississippi town she tries to piece together the connection between a current murder and her parent's deaths.

Absolutely devoured this in an afternoon! Being from the South, I understood all the nuances of small-town Southern living. I was thrown for a bit by how dated some of the attitudes really were in the story until I looked at the copyright date and realized it was written over 25 years ago (I think this may be Ms. Harris' first book?)

Now I know I will be hunting her series novels!

I believe this is one of Charlaines best books, the writing, and the style are very comfortable! And the ending, WOW, didnt expect that!
There were a couple of spots in it, where I felt like I was watching the dumb blonde in a horror movie and Im going *idiot dont go thru that door!* But alas that is the way alot of people assume us women are like! HA

When her parents and two friends are murdered, Catherine Linton begins to be suspicious of people she has loved for years .

Sweet and Deadly combines the best of mystery and suspense, with a pinch of romance .

Catherine Linton has returned to her hometown in Mississippi after the death of her parents. The police say they died in an accident, but Catherine isn't convinced. Taking a job at the local newspaper, she sticks around town in hopes she'll find some evidence of foul play. What she finds is the body of Leona Gates. Catherine's father was the local doctor and Leona was his nurse. Leona has obviously been murdered. Now Catherine is sure that there is something happening in this town that her parents and Leona were killed to cover up.

This was Charlaine Harris' debut novel. So many people loved it, but I had a hard time getting into this story. I never figured out why Catherine believed her parents were murdered. Was it just a feeling? Did I miss something? (Probably.) The story was full of appealing characters, but I never thought of any of them as suspects. My rating: 3 Stars.

Great characters and story development. I just wanted to know what happened to the main character after the mystery was solved.

A very fast read and back to what Charlaine Harris does best. She really gets you involved in the characters and you grow attached to them.
