If you are a beginner knitter who wants to design or alter patterns, this book is a great resource. Maggie brings the reader through a hands-on knitting process that teaches many tricks and techniques you may not find elsewhere. If possible, find a group of folks (either online or a local group) to go through this in a knit-a-long for maximum benefit.

I won't say that it leads to full out sweater design in the end. I didn't find the book quite that complete. It is an excellent start provided in more detail than many other 'sweater design' books.
