Once again, Lescroart does not disappoint with a fast paced, interesting story. "The Suspect" is tightly written, carefully plotted, and fast-paced. Lescroart skillfully examines the psyches of his main characters and exposes the feelings that they keep hidden from public view. He also focuses on the unsavory aspects of human nature which often lead to violence. The courtroom scenes are compelling and the suspense builds steadily until a series of twists and turns brings the story to a slightly contrived but still satisfying resolution. Giving Gina Roarke her own novel was a smart move; she brings new life to a long-running series that had begun to show signs of age... "The Suspect" is not quite a one day read, but it is hard to put down.

This story involves Gina Roake, who is a partner in the law firm headed by Dismas Hardy, Lescroart's protagonist in his other books. A writer is accused of murdering his high-achieving wife. I wasn't overwhelmed by the plot, but I like Lescroart's novels, and I am glad I read this one.

This is one of Lescroart's best tales. While it does not have the driving tenseness of some of his prior books, it provides a compelling need to keep reading. The protagonist is Gina Roake, partner to Dismas Hardy, and whom you may remember as the fiancee of David Freeman, who was killed in an earlier tale. Just good entertaining reading, set in San Francisco, as usual.

Although the characters Dismas Hardy and Abe Glitsky are not the central characters in the book, it did not lack great characters or story. Gina Roake, former fiancee of David Freeman, is trying to get her life back together since David died. She decides she needs to start working again and receives a phone call from an old friend about a friend of his that may need her representation. Stuart Gorman is a murder suspect who didn't help himself by freely speaking to the police detective the day his wife was killed. Now the police are not looking anywhere else for a suspect. There are lots of twists in the book and possible perpetrators besides Stuart including their own daughter! I really enjoyed the book as I always do with Lescroart - I think I figured out who did it about the same time that Gina did. :)
This appears to be the second in the Hunt Club series. Wyatt Hunt and Dismas Hardy is in it but Hardy's role is very slight.

This is a great book. I kept thinking a different person did the killing. The author weaved the story very well ad it was easy to follow. Actually, this was an easy read as well.

I have loved every book by him that I have read.
When a marriage headed for divorce court ends in homicide, no alibi can clear the surviving spouse. But the right attorney just might... A woman doctor is found dead in her bath tub, The homicide investigator believes that her husband is the murderer. The husband hires an excellent woman attorney, at first she believes his innocence, then she sees his dark side. Her feelings get in the way and she hires a private detective to investigate him and decide is he .........guilty! This story is unpredictable and it twists and turns until the very end.
I enjoy John Lescroat book's. They are all based out of San Francisco and surrounding area.
