Not my favourite Keyes novel, but a fun read nonetheless. The main problem is that it takes the book quite a while to reach cohesion. The individual storylines of the three women - Lisa, Ashling, and Clodah (who no one ever seems to call "Princess" - are mildly interesting, but until they actually start interacting with eachother and with others, the story doesn't really hold together. Once it does, though, it picks up speed. The book description is a little bit misleading, as there's certainly no bonding between the three of them and not much bonding between the two of them, plus the end result is that some un-bonding actually occurs.

I picked this book up on a recommendation and for the life of me I just couldn't get into it. I read the first 100 pages or so and it just didn't do it for me. Although I've heard great reviews about this author, she just wasn't for me.

I really enjoyed this book...it's the first I've read by Keyes and I already have requested another...if you like chick lit books that are funny and entertaining, you need to read this book! Some parts made me laugh out loud! :) -Mirah W.

I liked this book much more than I expected - the characters are sweet and real, and I ended up quite fond of most of them!

Defintely engaging and fun to read, keeps you wondering when you'll have time to sit back down and finish this 564-page book.
Three strong characters with intertwining stories look for happiness and success in the 90s in Ireland. This book captured the career world of magazines in the 90s in a pop culture background of comedy clubs and throws in modern issues such as homelessness and the growing economic success of Ireland. But, it's not a weighty read, it's just edgy enough to keep it realistic.
There's a couple of love stories going on here, with some torrid affairs to make it interesting, but its not just another romance novel.
I'll be looking for something else from this author.

An amusing romp from Marian Keyes. Starts a little slow, but gets a lot better toward the end!

I found this one to be completely predictable and a bit disappointing. Either I've been reading far too much chick-lit lately or I just really don't like Marian Keyes.
Helpful Score: 1
Startlingly good book, and Keyes is a dynamite writer. This is a chick-lit must-read, and one that gives the whole genre some credibility.

A fun, quick read!

I didn't like the book at all. Too girlish with no depth to the storyline. I didn't like the narrator at all either, too nonchalant. Very disappointed.

I read "Watermelon" by Marian Keyes before I read this one and I have to say that I liked this one much less. Honestly, it's rare that I have to struggle so much just to get through a book. It's set in Ireland and while that's all well and good, a lot of the language is very different which makes it kind of choppy to me. I felt that it dragged a lot through the beginning/middle and there was definitely more than one time that I thought about just quitting. I thought "Watermelon" was so funny and I really didn't see much of that humor in this book. Not a fan.

What I read was ok, but I couldn't finish it. It took too long for characters to start connecting. Don't know if I could try it again.

I really enjoyed this book. This was my first by Marian Keyes and I liked it well enough to read others by her.
Keyes' characters are always a little quirky and they are far from perfect. Her books take a slightly different perspective on situations and this makes her books very unique and fun to read.

I like how Marian Keyes balances the silly fluffy parts of the story with some more serious storylines. Not as enjoyable as her books featuring the Walsh family, but still great.

Story told through different peoples POV, i enjoyed knowing what everyone thought of the other characters and how they all ended up being "friends".
Great chick lit.
Pretty good. Keyes is very consistent.
I've enjoyed reading Sushi for Beginners.
This was a great book! I loved the characters!
I didn't care for this book to the point that I didn't even finish it. Though I have liked some of keyes other books.
Light reading, good British humor
On of the best books I have read in a while. I could not put it down.
I really enjoyed this book. it was the 1st marian keyes i've read and was pleasantly suprised.
This was a funny book! I made me think back about when I was single and dating and all you go through with men and friends
cute fun read
This is a fun little book similar to "Bridget Jones' Diary." Like sushi, it's quick and light.
Fun little romance. Fashion mag industry. Not as fluffy as I was expecting.
An awesome book by a superb author!
I absolutely love the books by Marian Keyes - so much that its hard for me to part with them! Very fun stories about friends and their ups and downs through life
entertaining
This takes place in Ireland and is about two woman finding love. Of course the road to love is not what it seems and the story follows their paths. A good enjoyable beach read.
Great beach book. Very easy to read. Enjoyed the story.
Great Book
Very funny chick lit. I enjoyed this book.
My favorive by Marian Keys! Lengthy, but I always love her mix of kooky characters. A very sweet story! O; )
A fun read. Good for a laugh or when you need a "flippy dippy" book.
Really good read. I pretty certain I know some of these characters. LOL!
Another hit by Marian Keyes. Once again she creates characters who are real, the good and the bad. Follow Lisa, Ashling and Clodagh as they face changes, some due to their own choices, and learn from these changes.
Fast read with a great ending
Loved Marian Keyes when I was in college. Have kinda outgrown her & chick lit for the most part. This was not one of her best. Try Lucy Sullivan Is Getting Married instead.

This Prada-wearing magazine editor thinks her life is over when her "fabulous" new job turns out to be a deportation to Dublin to launch Colleen magazine. The only saving grace is that her friends aren't there to witness her downward spiral. Might her new boss, the disheveled and moody Jack Devine, save her from a fate worse than hell?
Ashling Kennedy
Ashling, Colleen's assistant editor, is an award-winning worrier, increasingly aware that something fundamental is missing from her life -- apart from a boyfriend and a waistline.
Clodagh "Princess" Kelly
Ashling's best friend, Clodagh, lives the domestic dream in a suburban castle. So why, lately, has she had the recurring urge to kiss a frog -- or sleep with a frog, if truth be told? As these three women search for love, success, and happiness, they will discover that if you let things simmer under the surface for too long, sooner or later they'll boil over.

Discover the Keyes to a Great Read!
This is the first book I read written by Marian Keyes. I liked it so much that I went on to read the rest of her books. I also discovered Isabella Wolff who writes very similar and entertaining books.
My second Marian Keyes read and makes me grateful that I've found another great author.
Marian does it again - laugh out loud at some of her great characters
Funny but sometimes a little slow
fun read about modern romance
Very funny! Hate Lisa, love Aisling. I enjoy this author and her quirky characters.
A very funny and sweet story. Here's to slightly overweight adorable heroines! Lots of interesting characters and side stories. Great book!
This book was so fun to read. Great characters, and not formulaic.
I enjoyed this book alot. It was a book that was difficult to put down and it did make me laugh a few times. I could relate to some of the situations often. I really enjoyed it!
I really enjoyed this book, great story.
A lot of fun to read.
I love Marian Keyes' book! This book is excellent; smart, funny and real.
A fun, light read that takes place in Dublin.
Loved this book.
great chick lit!!
I'll read anything by Keyes. This was cute, as always, and easy to read.
Too many storylines bogged this down a bit, but it's a fun read with laugh-out-loud humor.
Marion Keys is also one of my favorite authors. I have read all of her books. This book was exceptionally good
I thought this book was just ok.
very good kind of slow
FROM THE PUBLISHER
Hard-nosed, bitch-goddess London fashion editor Lisa Edwards was certain her "fabulous" promotion would mean more A-list parties, society page photos, and jet-setting jaunts to the fall collections.
Instead, she's being deported, Prada wardrobe and all, to supremely un-chic Dublin to launch Colleen magazine. Her assistant editor, over-organized world-class worrier Ashling Kennedy, however, is thrilled with her new job . . .until she discovers it comes with a very high price tag: Lisa Edwards. And then there's Ashling's oldest, dearest chum, Clodagh "Princess" Kelly, who seems to have achieved true happily-ever-after suburban fairy tale bliss but lately has this irresistible urge to kiss a frog. The chances of three such diverse, equally unsatisfied women bonding would be remote anywhere except in staid Dublin town, "the magazine version of Siberia." And once they do, they're going to start shaking things up in print and out of it especially when Colleen's rumpled, moody, wickedly attractive head honcho Jack Devine is tossed into the mix.
True to Ms. Keyes writing, this book will keep you laughing. Very good book : )

Fashion editor, Lisa Edwards, is expecting her promotion to bring her to more fabulous parties, photo ops and runway collections, but instead finds herself being sent to Dublin to start a new magazine. Quel nightmare! Assistant editor Ashling Kennedy is thrilled with the new venture, until she learns she'll be dealing with Edwards. As Ashling learns to navigate a start-up magazine with the editor from hell, she's also trying to keep up with her dear friend Clodagh and keep her own head on straight around the terribly attractive boss, Jack Devine. Lots of fun and worth the read.
