Susan Cornish Author:Rebecca Caudill Rebecca Caudill's steadily growing reputation as a writer of fine "junior" novels is explained by her own words about SUSAN CORNISH: "I have tried to write a mature story that will say something to teen-age girls." — What SUSAN CORNISH says will interest mature readers as well as younger ones, for its theme--the rehabilitation of a small, down-t... more »rodden rural community--is one of real consequence.
Many of the episodes in SUSAN CORNISH are based on actual happenings in various parts of the United States. But the story grew out of teaching experiences in Tennessee described to Rebecca Caudill by a young friend. When the friend read the manuscript of SUSAN CORNISH, she wrote to the author, "I'm not the character Susan was, and the situations are parallel rather than similar. But the impact of the story is terrific... You've said so much that it's important for someone to say in just this way."
