Luke Heaton is a drunkard, gambler and womanizer. He is bitter about his parents death, but as he promised his mother, he is taking care of his only brother. Once enslaved aboard a British ship with Noah and Marianne Brenin, his hatred of the British has not waned. When the lovely and sophisticated Cassandra Channing offers him a proposition, Luke finds himself agreeing, even though it means giving up his drinking and gambling ways.

Cassandra Channing is at her wits end. With the men in her family away at war, the responsibility of her mother and two young sisters has fallen on her shoulders. Her only hope is to sink her money into a privateer, hoping that profits will abound. She didnt, however, count on every captain on the coast laughing at her suggestion and pushing her way because of her gender. Abhorred by the idea that she may have to marry a Mr Crane for her familys well-being, she chooses to trust the town rogue Luke Heaton.

But is Luke simply a rogue or is there something more sinister at play? Cassandra will go great lengths to find out.

Poetic, fresh, and inviting are all words that I use to describe MaryLu Tyndalls writing. She is a master storyteller, weaving words into pictures. I find her writing style very poetic and visual. Each chapter and scene is written in such a way that you will find it hard to put down.

This is the third book in her Surrender to Destiny series and I loved how this book and the second book take place at virtually the same time. She weaves the characters from all three books into this one. If you havent read the other two, this one can be read as a stand alone. However, you will want to read the first two to be in the know on some of her references.

The Christian message in this book is refreshing and clear. I highly recommend it to readers in all walks of life.

Many thanks to Barbour Publishing for sending me a copy to review.

Surrender the Dawn is a gripping and intense read beginning with the first scene. It is a special book that tells of the struggles and determination of Americans in 1814 as Great Britain puts forth every effort to regain the new American states and territory. A very enjoyable read.

Surrender the Dawn is the story I have waited for. We first met Luke Heaton in Surrender the Heart when his position was Noah's first mate. I admit I was drawn in by his roguish way and have been waiting for his story. I was not disappointed! Though rough around the edges he definitely won my heart. I totally enjoyed the banter between Cassandra and Luke. I sometimes wanted to shake Cassandra for her 'quick-to-think-the-worst' attitude. But I know I can be guilty of that as well. The theme running through the story is 'whatever happens to us, be it good or bad, is for our best interest and that God is good ALL the time'. A great thing to remember in our troubled times. One thing I always appreciate about MaryLu's writing is the amount of research she does. I love the way she brings history to life in a living breathing story. In this particular installment there is a special appearance of someone famous on the ship toward the end of the book which I thought was a really neat touch. Great job MaryLu! This is the third book in the Surrender to Destiny Series. It can be read as a stand alone but I would definitely recommend you start with book one, Surrender the Heart, then book 2, Surrender the Night for a much richer reading experience. A thank you goes to the author and publisher for this complimentary copy for my review.

I think I'm in love. His name is Luke Heaton, and he is.....amazing. Gorgeous. Courageous. Cares for his family. Strong. Protective. Man of his word. Sweet. And just a tiny bit of a rogue ;) The upside is I have gotten to spend time with him each day for the last 5 days. The downside is he is a fictional character :( However, I got to know him during a fabulous book that I highly recommend for anyone who wants a little pirate adventure, a little romance, and a little shot of patriotism.

Cassandra Channing is the only hope for her mother and two younger sisters after her father's passing. Cassandra takes a huge risk with all the money they have left in the world and funds a privateer ship captained by the rogue Luke Heaton. Luke will hunt down British ships, plunder them, sell the plunder at various ports on the way home and split the profits amongst his crew and Miss Channing. The most unexpected prize from all the plundering is the love that grows between Luke and Cassandra. While they each have struggles with God, they each question His love for them and how He could be interested in their daily lives. Throughout the book, different characters share parts of their walk with God and problems they have had and how their relationship with God has grown and changed because of it. There is also an appearance by a fun historic character near the end that might cause a certain song to get stuck in the reader's head-at least it did in mine! A fun, romantic, encouraging read starring the incorrigible Luke Heaton-you should definitely give it a try ;)
