A great, gutsy, down and dirty story of the early days when the West was settled. Wonderful ,resilient characters that evolve. Solid plot with lots of historically accurate info and detail about life, wagon trains, the role women played in the building of the west. Almost didn't repost this one.

I love stories about wagon trains as the pioneers travel to the west to make new homes. There are lots of hardships along the way, with many dangers and sometimes even death, but romance can be found in the most unexpected places. This book had it all. Great story.
Lydia had vowed no man would ever touch her or take away her will. And Ross Coleman had pledged to remain true to the wife who had died giving birth to his son. Yet soon Lydia and Ross would be pulled into a maelstrom of danger and desire... unable to deny the storm of emotions gathering inside them... unable to stop the secrets that would soon pit an enemy's deadly vengeance against the strength of a woman's love.
good book. It starts off by pulling me in with wanting to know Lydia's secrets and once meeting Ross wanting to hear his secrets. Great Romance novel.
This was one of the first books I ever read by Sandra Brown and remains my favorite. Great story, great characters. Just lovely.
This book is one of my favorites ever. The characters are unforgettable and the book catches you from the first page....I didn't want to put it down.
A very enjoyable read, I would recommend it.
This book had me hooked from the first sentence. I found it very difficult to put it down and get some sleep so I could get to work the next day! Great writing and compelling characters. I don't know why I waited so long to read it; I'm a fan of Ms. Brown's and this book was originally published in 1985.
Lydia Langston was a mysterious woman on the way to Texas. Stubborn Ross Coleman was also running from his past. Lydia and Ross found themselves togetherk, fighting the same enemy.
This was the first book of a 2 book series (The second is about Lydia's daughter) I thought the book was good, a few parts were a little rough but no different than real life I guess.
This is the first of two books by Sandra Brown, the second one is Another Dawn, I enjoyed both of them
I read this book years ago because it was being raved about online but it didn't work for me. At all. I had some major issues with the hero who verges on caveman but I won't spoil it for the rest of you. This copy was found at a yard sale for the Humane Society.
Lydia was running away from her past, and wound up being rescued by a wagon train. Losing her baby in childbirth, she soon finds herself tending to a new baby that lost his mother in childbirth. Ross doesn't want Lydia taking care of his child, but realizes that she's the answer to his prayers in more ways than one.
Can love heal old hurts? Can trust come to two people that find it hard to give? Will an old enemy cause more deaths in his fight for revenge?

Fairly decent fluffy romance reading. A good beach book.
No woman on the trek to Texas was more mysterious than the russet-haired Lydia. No man was more proud than the rugged Ross Coleman. Both were running from the past--and to each other. But Lydia had vowed no man would ever touch her or take away her will. And Ross Coleman had pledged to remain true to the wife who had died giving birth to his son. Yet soon Lydia and Ross would be pulled into a maelstrom of danger and desire---unable to deny the storm of emotions gathering inside them---unable to stop the secrets that would soon pit an enemy's deadly vengeance against the strength of a woman's love.
typical boy meets girl and both have secrets in their past. If you like Brown though, this will be a good read.

I like most of Sandra Brown's romance novels but not this one. Frankly I had to quit half way through. The male character was so surly and unlikeable it was hard to take. I can't imagine what would make the guy act like a decent human being and I was tired of waiting. The female character had suffered a horrible childhood after her father died and her mother remarried and had brought her into a home where she was repeatedly beaten and raped. The story starts with a young girl in the woods alone, in labor, having a stillborn child, left for dead. Not exactly heart-warming material to start off and it didn't get any better. I did not care about what a gorgeous bod the man had and I was tired of the constant talk about the woman's big breasts. I just saw very little joy in this so-called romance and didn't want to further drag myself down so I quit.
My book has a white cover, not the one shown.
