The Sunroom is a story about a girl's relationship with her mother and with our Lord. Becky Owens's mother becomes ill and everyone thinks it is just the flu. But as time passes, she is taken to the doctor and then hospitalized. Becky is twelve years old and loves to play the piano, a talent she got from her mother. While her mother is hospitalized, Becky nor her younger sister are allowed to visit her as the rules at the hospital do not allow children twelve and under to visit anyone. Her mother has surgery and as she improves, she walks to the sunroom on her hospital floor. From there she can look out and see her two girls and wave. But things are still touch and go. Frightened and concerned, Becky turns to God and tries to make a "deal" with him if He will only keep her mother alive. She lives for the time she can see her Mom in the sunroom, even from a distance. Then she learns that the doctors are sending her mother home; there is nothing else they can do. Will God let her mother die, despite the deal she worked out with Him? This is a touchingly beautiful tale about love, faith, patience, giving and most of all, trusting in the Lord. I highly recommend it for its lovely message.

So begins the story of Becky Owens, a talented and passionate young pianist on the verge of adolescence when she learns the devastating news of her mothers critical illness. As the daughter of a country preacher in Lancaster County, Becky knows well the significance of sacrifice, and in her bargain with God, she vows to exchange her most cherished possession for her mothers life.

Hospital rules only add to Beckys sorrowtwelve-year-olds arent allowed to visit, so Becky and her mother must share tearful smiles through Lancaster Generals sunroom window. But a realization of the power of music and a lesson in unconditional love compel Becky to rethink her "deal" with God, and the sunroom becomes a place where miracles happen

This book is gift quality.
Based on diary entries from the author's childhood, The Sunroom is a tender story of Becky Owens, a young girl who must face the terrifying possibility of losing the one she holds most dear. Her journey of faith as she comes to a new realization of a love beyond limits is an inspiring and tender tale you will long remember.

As a young girl the author Beverly Lewis found spiritual solace in keeping a journal of her daily thoughts and prayers, never knowing that one day these intimate writings would become the seeds for a heartwarming book.

The Sunroom is a "fictional shadow" of what truly happened inside this author's young heart. She prayed and believed, then going so far as even to make a pact with God, hoping to spare her mother's life. The author a daughter of a Lancaster preacher, she was left in the sunroom per hospital rules. Here she prayed and learned a lesson in unconditional love.

This read was a beautiful and endearing read leaving one with a refreshed spiritual lift that I am glad I read.
