I listened to The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon in anticipation of the movie adaptation and because I read several positive reviews. Full confession: I'm not really a YA reader and that is evident in my opinion of this novel.

I liked main characters Natasha and Daniel and empathized with the ways immigration impacts their lives. However, readers have to believe in a series of major coincidences for their story to make sense. I actually enjoyed the âuniverseâ portions of the novel more where we get glimpses into the lives of minor characters. A good reminder that we never know the many ways we may impact someone's life with a simple one-time interaction.

I've heard mixed reviews for the movie, but I'll probably watch it at some point.

That focal point of the immigrant experience is the strong undercurrent of The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon. Even stronger is how the story revolves around the idea whether things in life happen for a reason or by mere chance. Overall, the structure of the book works. It begins to mimic the cover of the book, as the threads of these individual lives intertwine and have effects far beyond what the individual can imagine.
