I really enjoyed this book. There was more humor and lightheartedness in this story than in other books by Susan Wiggs. A good curl-up-and-read book. I generally don't read books in the romance genre, but Susan Wiggs is an exception.

this is another can-you-go-back-home story. In this one, the family owned Summer Camp is seriously in need of repair so a granddaughter agrees to fix it up. She hires a contractor - who happens to have been a teenaged love - and things get interesting. I wanted to go back to camp, too.

I have always wanted to go to summer camp so this book was a great escape read! Like the main character, I was a chubby teen so I could really relate to the story and my heart really went out to her while reading the book. The flashbacks really tie in the whole story. A few things were left hanging at the end of the story.

Book 1 of the series. Loved it! You get wrapped up into the lives of the characters from the beginning. I found myself wanting to jump ahead to see what was going to happen. But, Wiggs is terrific at holding your attention in the moment so you can't quit. The recipes featured in the story are published on her website. They sound terrific and lend a homey feel to the entire story.

Olivia Bellamy is a three times loser in the romance department. Reeling from her latest breakup, she decides to go to her grandparents' camp in the Catskill Mountains. The camp holds a lot of painful memories for Olivia because she was always the fat unpopular kid. Determined to disassociate her past from her present, she decides to renovate the camp for her grandparents' 50th wedding anniversary celebration. It has been closed for a long time and she has her work cut out for her. She didn't count on running into her first love, Connor Davis. They had been at camp together as kids and both had walked away from their relationship with broken hearts. The story goes back and forth between their past days at camp and the present work being done. Working together causes them both to remember the past and their feelings for one another.
This is a romance without getting all mired down with bodice ripping writing. The characters are likable and we see both Olivia and Connor's sides of the story. I also enjoyed the descriptions of the scenery and wished I could visit.

Hi: I had so many books to read that I am just now reading this. I love it so far. I had read Summer Hideaway out of sequence, actually it was my first book by Ms Wiggs and what compelled me to order the whole Lakeshore Chronicle Set. I am enjoying seeing names I now know because of the other book and getting an earlier look at how the story began. I also love how Ms Wiggs goes back and forth in time to show you how a relationship started. Usually that gets confusing but not with this author. I am totally emeshed in the story and it has like 562 pages and I am only up to like 160 and I love it already. This is the best I can do till I read the whole book.

Long LONG book, but very good. This is the first in the Lakeshore Chronicles series and it really does set up all the stories to come in the future. It is so well written and really sucked me in that I managed to read the entire thing in one day. It was very refreshing to read a story that doesn't have they typical "romance" pattern ( girl meets boy- girl falls for boy - boy falls for girl but one of them has issues - girl and boy have fight or come to crossroads and girl bails on boy - boy realizes he is a putz and comes back after 40 or 50 pages of angst and should coulda wouldas.....) Sheesh. After a while I just want to read a story about falling in love and staying in love. This book delivers that in spades. It also gives you a family that draws you in and makes you want to stay a while.
I am so looking forward to the rest of this series... Susan Wiggs is deffinately a keeper!

I don't read romance novels often, but I do read them if the reviews are good and the plot summary sounds interesting. I got this one free on Kindle based on the great reviews and the fact that it was written by a best selling author. I should have saved myself the time and bother. Predictable, boring and unspectacular writing. I won't be reading any of this author's other work, ever.
Lovely story and a fun read.
The more I read Wiggs the more I realize it's just the same theme and story written slightly different. But it's still quite entertaining.
I loved Connor and Olivia's story but I had a harder time feeling celebratory with her grandparents anniversary party. Mostly it was because I read Jane and Charless story and I have some issues with Janes huge gigantic lie. The plotline with Daisy I had to skim read since I read some of it already in the later books (I believe parts are written the same word for word).
Connor and Olivia were great characters. Connor was tough on the outside but very caring and giving on the inside. He was typical co-dependent and a huge caretaker. Olivia had insecurities due to growing up overweight and having to remake herself in her own image and not her parents. It bothered a bit that Olivia kind of looked down on Connor and he was okay with it. Not once was he angry that she assumed he wasnt knowledgeable, successful, or smart.
It was a decent read. It would have been better if I havent read so many of Wiggs books already.
