I liked it very much. Anyone who has been out of touch from their mother should check this book out.

Hm, so there are a few things that led to my dislike of this one (as a liker of Kristin Hannah's work).

1 - I'm an idiot. I kept thinking "Wow, this is like the shortest Kristin Hannah book ever!!" Lies. It took me until I was on the 4th of 4 discs to realize that I was listening to an abridged audiobook. Ugh, I avoid abridged, but this was my first -- unintentionally. I always wondered, "Will I be able to tell that part of the book is missing?" The answer is YES. It was painfully clear to me (at least in one part) where they cut stuff out. So, that was obnoxious because I could tell, it felt weird, and I wanted to fill in those blanks.

2 - While this didn't really feel written in 2001 from a "that was 16 years ago perspective" it was just terribly cheesy. I mean, I say this as someone who has read quite a bit of Kristin Hannah. Maybe it was the narrator just making the written words SOUND more cheesy that they should have been read. I found myself thinking "Was it the words, or just how they were said?" It was more how they were said.

3 - Ruby drove me nuts in points. Not for all the reasons she's supposed to drive you nuts (the plot), but because she sounded like the most 48-year-old, 28-year-old I've ever met.

4 - Dean - also what a weirdo. But maybe that was just because this was abridged? Was there more I missed in the unabridged book? I'll never know.

5 - Basically this one just rubbed me the wrong way more than other books of hers and like all over the place, and throughout. I wanted to gag, but had to know how predictably it would end (and yes, it was predictable).
