Book 1 of the Low Country Summer Trilogy
Great summer beach read with the emphasis on nature, the ocean, and it's inhabitants, as in all Mary Alice Monroe books.
Real characters facing the hard issues of life with family as the emphasis.
Can't wait for Book 2!

I read THE SUMMER GIRLS for the July 2015 "Mary Alice Monroe" theme in my online book club, The Reading Cove.
Was this even written by Mary Alice Monroe? I've read and enjoyed other books of hers (SWEETGRASS & THE BOOK CLUB off the top of my head), and this one seems to be written in a much more elementary and basic style. I could just about give this book to my 12 year old niece to read. That's how simplistic this story was.
Overall, I found it largely skimmable because the story and characters were as clichéd as the plot sounds. I couldn't recommend it for adult reading. C.
