I have Just One Kiss, Two of a Kind, and Three Little words by Mallery on my keeper shelf so I was looking forward to this summery hardcover. Unfortunately I gave up at page 246. I want my escapist reads to be happy distractions from the real world and this one had too much real world and not enough delight for me to finish it. Infidelity, childhood cancer, impending death, and a repeatedly immature and irritating adult daughter had me putting this one aside. If you want family drama this may be a good choice for you. If you want a melty, tears in your eyes romance take a pass.

The Summer Getaway by Susan Mallery is about Robyn Caldwell who runs away from her life to figure out where her life is going next. She has the luxury of escaping to her aunt's ocean front mansion in Santa Barbara! The issue is that everyone â and I do mean everyone â somehow ends up following her. Some of the scenes and the chaos that ensues is completely over the top and makes for an entertaining read.

Fun romantic summer read. Robyn's mid-life wake up call after her divorce forces her to re-evaluate her future. Family disputes and turmoil convinces her to "run away" to visit her great aunt in CA. Interesting characters and familial twists and turns. Warning: Some sexual content if you're easily offended.

Great easy beach read. Family dynamics-Mother /daughter/love/ hate/ ex husband/ex boyfriend/ new man...so much drama!!! Fun read. My only complaint is I wish she would just leave some things to the imagination and not pepper her dialogue with dirty words. Sometimes it's a shock to the system when reading a pleasure book to have to see words I am unaccustomed to when reading beachy novels. That is all!
