Yet another multiple murder in medieval England. Brother Michael and his friend physician Matthew are headed to the priory of Ely, Michael by summons of his bishop and Matthew to utilize their library for his medical research. It seems the bishops been accused of murder and needs Michael's help to clear his name. There's great unrest after the 'Black Death' and what seems like a simple drowning is discovered to be murder and the bodies just keep coming after that. If you're reading the series in sequence, the history of some of the characters are further revealed in this story. As one may expect the story is full of themes of right and wrong, prejudice, vanity and greed.
